im looking to get a truck before a car and im looking at an s10 pick up how reliable is the car ???? does it cost alot and how much did you get your s 10 for??? one more thing im looking at the 80s toyta truck I hear there are good engines in those cars because they last a long time does the s 10 compare to that?????

the s10 4.3L is a very reliable engine. i personally have a 1998 4.3l auto with 150k miles on it and all i have done to it is routine maintenance. mantenance is the key to any vehicle. whatever you buy dont believe what the owners says about the maintenance until they can provide reciepts. without reciepts assume it was abused. C.Y.A. (cover your ass) good luck in whatever you decide to go with.

Toyota trucks run a long time, the only problem with the trucks is that the bodies fall off.The S10 on the other hand the bodies last a little longer, but the engine compared to a Toyota engine???I would go with the import. But as stated above, depends on the maintence of the truck.

the bodies fall off???? is that why many people lift the toyota truck??? to prevent it???? would the insurence be lower on toyota truck vs the s10 pick up?? by the way I would like my truck with a little bit lift to it but not to high the toyotas look lifted the s10 lifted is rare in my town but the s10 looks better lifted when the front bumper is removed ...anyway it seems I would better off with a early to mid 90s truck vs the late 80s toyota truck.... unless someone can prove me otherwise???

Of course newer will be better than older.
Remove the bumper on an S10? Huh?
How old are you?

have you seen thoses baja racer cars??? the s 10 looks like one without the front bumper (lifted up that is) ... or at least it looked like the front bumper was removed when I seen one it looked cool in my opinion vs the one with the bumper again just my opinion by the way im 19

well i got a 95 for 3g's. And it was a reat deal it only had 50k on it. I love my s-10. its a 2.2L 4cyl and i am puttin a turbo on it. and my insurance is a lil high cause i am a new driver. I am 16. I suggest anything above 96 just because better parts and diff engine mods. like with the 2000 is when they started doin air injection. if u r looking for a truck to cruise with and maybe haul ass a few times go with the 2.2 4cyl. But if u want to bad ass it where ever u go 4.3 v6 fer sure. And dont stress about these guys bein dicks they r stupid sometimes cause i kno where u r comming from same way here. and as for the lift go for it but dont think about mobbing hardcore. Cross members and wat not are a lil weak. And NO 80's toyota. Thats a waste of money. And how much u r willing on spending is a bigg issue.

you got one hell of a deal which engine should I look to get I dont plan on spending more then.....6 or 7k maybe less can I get a v6 with that and how is the gas mileage on the v6 vs the 4cyl im sure the 4cyl has better gas milage but how much better??? I also have a tread on the toyota trucks if you guys want to see what there saying

Excuse me, you calling me a dick and stupid for being honest.
2.2L 4 Cylinder is gutless in a S10.
Only option is the 4.3L V6 if you want to enjoy the truck.
How the hell at 16 do YOU know anything about these trucks? Do you even own either option?
BTW, you got ripped on your truck, its value is only US$2560 blue book.
Now who is stupid now?

CAUSE it is a goos motor. Theres people with some 4cyl that have beaten porche 911. THe 4 cyl is a good motor. And with some money u can make it haul ass. But the v6 is also good. The 4cyl will be cheaper. Thats your choice. But in the extreme has 200hp

Cheap, yea, some of them are because they are rusted so bad.
But they still are great cars if the person got them rust checked and sprayed with anti rust oil every year.
Since 1995, you really can't beat Japanese quality.

any s-10 94 up with either engine is a great truck
i had a 94 s-10 ss with 4.3 vortec and it hauled ass
now i have a 99 s-10 with 2.2 its bagged and shaved. i can smoke a 5.0 stang. after a little engine work and a 100hp shot of nos.
you can find one cheap 2500.00 and up. then spend the rest of that 6 or 7 k to trick it out. there are thousands of aftermarket, and performance parts for the s-10. if u want to lift it i would go with the 4.3 due to the load of bigger tires and wind resistance. the 2.2 will wear out faster with all the added work of the lift. have fun ps my insurance is not that high. and i have a very bad record

I go with a 94+ VorTec V-6. The 4.3 liter model if you're looking for a 4x4. Mine's all stock and putting out just a hair over 200 Hp and is slightly lifted. The paint's a little scuffed but the engine is good and the only problems I've had have been results of the rough use it got before I bought it. As far as making it move faster I'd imagine some performance parts and cold air intake would help... But two wheel drive and lower would make better speed... Less wind resistance and lighter. That said my truck gets 22-26 mpg or better after a oil change, air filter change, and running an octane booster through it and will get up and go.

All i can say is i own a number of different s trucks over time, the 4.3 has the most power and is the most capable, have a 93, the 2.5 will run forever so it seems, have and 88 with 250,000 miles and running strong, the 2.8 is junk from experience, had an 84, blew it up, replaced with an 86 2.8, it is weak but good on gas. I would never own a 2.2, they are junk and weak, but to each his own, it is good on gas but sucks on power. Look it sounds like people don't know much about anything, yes you can build a 2.2l to beat a 5.0 stock stang, but is it worth it, yes you can tune any engine but is it worth it to dump a lot of money into a truck to do that? For a practical truck that looks good and is very capable go with a newer s10 with a 4.3 liter and 4wd if thats what you want, sounds like it, then buy the lift yourself, a 4/3 lift will only cost $300 depending on brands for spindles springs and blocks and have fun. It seems like everyone looses sight of what you're looking for, i mean DUDE!!!! cool a turboDUDE!!!!Ha get 1,000 hp out of a 2.2 litre for 80 grand and beat a 5.0 stang, come one yep it can be done but that's not what this guy is asking, and oh just a thought, you can't talk about something without experiance like everyone seems to know, sorry i really don't mean to bitch here but i got a little heated since lately everyone seems to know everything about everything but obviously doesn't, LoL.
