85 brake lights not working

I replaced a blulb that was out on the left middle
of the break light box. Nothing. I then replaced the
brake light switch behind the brake pedal. Still nothing.
Any ideas? Turn signals work. Hazards work. When
I turn the headlights on, they all light up in the back
just nothing changes when brakes applied.

I've just looked through the wiring diagram in the Hayes manual. The circuit goes like this:

Hot [20A fuse]
|
Brake switch
|
|------ center mounted Stop light --- [ground]
|
Turn/Hazard Switch Assembly
|
|------ Left/Right rear Stop Lights --- [ground]

Your problem could either be bad wiring or the Turn Hazard Switch assembly is bad. It will depend on if the center mounted Stop Light is working.

It was the connection between the switch and the turn signal assembly. A wire going from the brake switch and the small harness going up the steering column was broke. I rewired it and all is well.
