Hey... Me and my friends were thinking.. since they drive rear wheel drive cars and drift everywhere and i too love drifting why not make my TSi AWD rear wheel drive. we talked about it and decided to come on here and see if anyone else has thought about it and done it. or has any input on what would happen or how to do it.

BTW DRift club in nd. 1989 supra turbo, 1986 toyota corolla (ae86), a few 240's one with an sr20det

Why ruin a good car for a weak-ass sport?

To answer your question...anything is possible.

I may be wrong, and i probably am, but wouldnt taking the front drive axles off immobilize your car?, i mean, if i jack one wheel of the car up into the air and try to drive, that wheel will spin but the car wont move? right?, well i know it works that way in my fwd. so if u disconnected both front axles then wouldnt the car just sit and rev because the hookups for the front axles would spin and allow no power to the rear axles. This is just my thinking, so feel free to correct me.

wouldnt he also want to replace the front suspension, since the support of the axles wouyld be gone? maybe replacements from a car of the same year...

jeez guys, i figured the "lol" and ":D" would tell you i was joking :D :D

northriverflames, im pretty sure you are right about the non movement, your lsd keeps your tires spinning close to the same speed so id would destroy it pretty quick if thats all you did to make your car rwd

Wouldn't it mess up the viscous coupler? I'm sure you could weld the VC and take the front axles out to get it to work. But then you have the problem of busting your rearend. a DSM AWD rearend isn't strong enough to handle the power and weight transfer of a pure RWD application.
Just do the burshur conversion and put a glide mated to a ford 9 inch. :) :)

I know you were jsut joking 96tsi, but to complete that though above... The VC would live a short life with either end of the drivetrain disconnected. With a welded VC, welded diff, or spool, you can do it. This is how we convert our cars to FWD to use "normal" dynos. Install one of the parts above, and drop the tcase and driveshaft. To get rid of FWD, you have to take apart the axles and use the passenger side cup to block the hole in the tranny, and the driver side inner half with carrier bearing to block that side (since there is no clip to hold the axle in the tranny on th drviers side). But as mentioned above you still get good traction with RWD and the Tcase and rear axles wont last long. You can get away with FWD since you dont get as much traction.

Or you could learn to drift AWD.
Look into rally cross and rally too if you like drifting. Then you can put that AWD to some good use.

iv seen people drift with front wheel drive before... with enough speed and stiff enough suspension out back anything is possible... and naw im not talking bout using the e brake

you just touch the ebrake for a second to start it. but eclipses really arent good drift cars they stay stuck to the road too much
