help about air filtre

my dad has a subaru GX wagon and i was wondering if its bad to put the air filtre right on the thorttle body. i havent taken a good look at the engine so i dont know where the air flow sensor thing is(what ever its called) :confused:

so is it bad to put it there? im only want to put it in so it can help the engine flow better he already has a 2 1/4 inch cat bak exhaust

for one if there is a mass air flow sensor it wouldnt work anyway, second of all i would keep it more toward the fender and possible try to send some cooler air from the fender toward the air filter....colder air is better for the car, putting it right on the trottle body would suck lots of hot air from the engine bay.
