wow that is a bit harsh. does anyone know if they have laws like that in pennsylvania. i am pretty confident that the place i need to get yearly inspections have no clue or would care as long as it said nissan some where on it.

I think the whole jail thing was if you were caught racing or promoting an illegal race.

Yeah, same thing with having your license revoked for 2-5 years. I've never heard of anything like getting your car impounded but yeah you might get a fine for having what in the cops' eyes is an "illegal" modification. Not positive of all this though.

Your not going to have a problem witha swapped engine or Smog if you live in the state of Oklahoma like me... hell the cops near the lake encourage people to get better engines to try and beat the OHP Camaros which can go 210 for like 15 -30 minutes

If you get pulled over and they have you pop your hood, they won't know the difference between the KA and the SR, but they will see the turbo and you'll get a trip to the smog ref. Tell them you had no idea the engine was not the factory one or illegal, say it was in the car when you bought it and didn't think twice about it.

It's a correctible violation, you probably have to pay some money in paper work, then you need to swap a KA back in which is going to cost you some $$$.

If you are caught racing (random car on the street) and cited, it's 2 points on your record, if you don't have any other points you will keep your license, if that makes 3 points for you, then you're fucked =(

If it's some organized race you're probably looking at an impound for fun.

Hmm, sounds like something is missing from this story. I'm sure they were doing something else to get 1 month in jail, along with the 5g fine.

i really doubt that swapping an engine leads to jail time or the cops would be cracking down on local shops too.

the shops are safe pretty much because they say its illegal to do the swape disclaimer blah blah blah

and that it is your fault for taking it to the road and that their services are for track use only, its alot of BS that keeps them safe

i can't say about the penalties in cali as im from florida and we don't even have emissions testing anymore, plus cops here probably couldnt tell what and SR is....

of course. SRT-4 aren't imported from another country. Built here in US and are on the market. can't be illegal. sr's on the other hand were never on the market here.. period.

So let me get this straight, if I decide to drive to Cali and get pulled over, I could get a ticket for having a V6 instead of a I-4, probably not as long as it is OK by GA law, but how do you guys survive there then. I think it is a violation of consumer rights, as long as you pass emissions and are not tampering with safety devices, it should be none of their concern when you put chrom in your engine bay. We hate GA cuz you can't hardly go past 15mph over the speed limit. Cops are everywhere. You can take a small block and swap it into a civic for all they care, as long as you pass emissions for that engine year. Damn the laws in Cali suck, I would organize a protest or something cuz, it is like them telling you well you can buy this house but if you paint your walls a different color, we will give you a ticket, or buying land thats has corn already planted on it and them telling you you can't grow wheat, THAT IS PLAIN BULLSHIT IF YOU ASK ME.

first of all, where are you going to get up to 210mph for 15-30 minutes?

2nd of all, since cops are a government organization, they must adhere to rules more then we do, especially when it comes to safety. The government will not fund a car that goes 210mph for 15-30 minutes, you know why? because cop cars are limmited to a certain top speed, this is based on the tire's speed rating that comes from the factory. And if you notice cops only use certain types of tires..rated to 155mph, and they always replace bad ones with the same type that came from the factory. This is why the new B4C camaro with the LS1 is limmited to 155mph, although theoretically, that engine with that chassis could go faster with an ECU mod... something a police organization would not do in today's world.

3rd--- ENGINE.. show me an engine that goes constantly at 210mph for a minimum of 15 minutes non stop and I will show you a costly race engine that is rebuilt almost as many times as it is used. It takes horsepower to go that fast, horsepower is not cheap, or reliable. These are cop cars we are talking about here, not race cars from IRL, NASCAR(which doesn't even do 210mph for 15 minutes), Top Fuel(they do over 210mph for a second and their engines get rebuilt, or atleast tore down and inspected after every race)

4th---COOLING.. the amount of strain that full throttle for 15 minutes puts on a street engine is immense, in fact I HIGHLY doubt that any could do it.... definetly a forced induction vehicle could not do it, the turbo or supercharger would literally melt.. a turbo would be way over a 1000 degrees, and thats just when boost hits towards redline... imagine that much heat... dissapating into a metal device for 15 minutes...

this thread got me thinking. i plan on swapping in a rb20det into my 240. where i live i am quite certain that i can pass my yearly inspections and emissions here, but say i would bring my car to california for whatever reason. if i got pulled over and they looked at my engine would they try and inpound my car? i know it really isn't a legal swap anywhere, but since i would pass in my state would they let it slide and tell me not to bring the car back?

I am from GA as well. A lot cops here s*ck a big nut, there are some cool ones though. They hate imigrants (I am Ukrainian). If it would be another redneck speeding they would probably let him go, me- he would right so much sh*t it's not even funny.

Huh? not totally true since the SR20 is not legal in any state it would still be a 'crime'.

Depending on state an illegal engine swap (and to clarify this as far as those who think cops are clueless, they have printouts of the 'proper' engines for known 'race' cars on the street): You lose you car totally....doesn't matter if you have a lein/loan on it or it's your parent's car...it gets towed and smooshed, you lose your Driver's License, you are fined (possibly in the tens of thousands although more than likely you will get the option of hundreds of hours of community service), you can go to jail.

Regardless of whether your state has emissions testing or not...you cannot put a non-US emissions tested engine into any car..the SR20DET is not a federally offered powerplant and is illegal in all 50 states, end of story.

Of course (california and busted street racing excluded) your chances of getting caught are very minor even with a FMIC.

You have to love a state where you can still have an open beer in your car and as long as you can pass the BAC test you are good to go.

Pavlo, that was funny as fuck, I live in Henry county, and I'm also Kenyan, I don't think it was my nationality that made them act like ass, seeing that I was busted doing 45 over, and He still let me go after cursing the shit out of me. But that was once, cuz the next two were like 30 some over and they didn't let me go. I hate GA for traffic tickets, but other than that, these cops have no idea what an SR or RB is, I still see them facinated with neons and cool color interiors. Just don't speed, drive erraticly, or go bouncing your car in the middle of traffic, and they will hardly bother you.
In Ga they hate Drunk drivers so don't do it, my friend got hauled to jail, and my mom and his mom had to get him out, and he blew a fucking .69 and then .71, the legal limit for DUI is .8, any lower and it is wreckless misconduct.
Oh, and Ga cops hate speeders, we already can't drive worth a shit at the speed limit, and the ave speed of I-75 is 90mph, and when it rains, all hell breaks loose. When we have an inch of snow, everything shuts down, you'll still see idiots driving at 70mph on ice.
But we love Ga, where else can you get a ticket for 4miles above.
We can mod our cars free from the boyz in blues interferance, they never even bother us if your car is too low, but they will get on you for tint.

I live In Nebraska City Ne Population about 7000 and you can do anything you want if you are over 21. If you are under they pull you over all the time, i know of about 8 highschool kids who got dui in the last year one of them took my 240 and got a dui in it he told me he needed to get his girlfriends purse out of it and took off then got pulled over running a red light it pissed me off so much. but they dont care what you do to your car as long as it isint falling apart
