I found a pre 85 1/2 944 non turbo(I only know because I saw the dash)
at a small time dealer. it has leather and looks pretty good paint wise. My dad talk to the dealer owner(he's done alot of business with him) he said the only thing wrong with it is it's missing the rear hatch seals. It has around 80,000 miles on it. he's asking $2,800.
is the car worth getting? I'm going to go look at it in more detail and test drive it tommorow.
he buys his cars at auctions so there probably arent any records.
I'm just looking for something to cruise in and give a few honda's a run for there money.
thanks
Marcus

Could be a good deal as long as the seal is the only thing wrong. If you've got the money, get a PPI. You'd be much better off spending $100 and knowing everything.
recommendation if you buy: plan on changing your belts soon after purchase. You'll spend maybe $80 now on the belts and tensioner but that's a lot cheaper than ~$2000 for a top end rebuild.

Sounds like a good deal as long as it only needs the seal and nothing mechanical wise. Also dont buy the car if you jsut want to race honda's with it cause base model 944's arent very fast unles of course your gonna take them on in teh twisties.

arent that fast? I drove it....I loved it. I did a 180 on pavement with alittle sand on it. all records are in glove box.
it has more problems than I thought.
window seal
steering wheel shaking
alittle rust on the driver side in front the wheel well.
cheap paint job thats chiped around the door.
seat doesn't move back which makes it cramped.
a couple cracks in dash
the driver door panel is messed up.
anyways
I'm not getting it for that price.

You need to check out the Porsche 924/944 FAQ. It's available at: http://www.connact.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faq.html
And has lots of information as to what typically happens to these cars, and estimates at what it would take to fix (I can't vouch or verify the numbers, as I'm still looking for mine).

If you think a early base model 944 is fast than hope in a S2 or better yet a 951 and open it up on the highway and you will pee your pants if you think a reg 944 is fast.
