i noticed since i got the truck that if i shift from park to drive the truck lunges foward and from 1st to 2nd it shifts hard put if i'm pushing the truck its fine. its a 95 GMC jimmy,4.3 V6, auto trans.

When you say it lunges, is it more like a slam or a nudge? A little nudge is pretty normal, if it is slamming you're in for a serious problem. Take it to a tranny shop that gives free estimates. My 93 S-10 blazer went into some heavy-duty slam shifting and the tranny had to be rebuilt to the tune of $1500. USD.

if u don't hold the breaks real hard it will slide forward a little but doesn't keep going. only when you shift. what about the 1st to 2nd gear? it dosen't slam hard. it just isn't smooth like all of the others and like i said that if i'm pushing the truck it shits right. i was told its some eletronic crap under the filter.

What is the engine rpm when you are doing this?

metallica21156
09-13-2004, 08:33 PM
well if i'm below 3,000 it shifts hard but if i'm higher then that it shifts fine. its only 1-st to 2nd. all other gears shift fine at any rpm.

I am talking about when you put it from park to drive it lunges forward.

What rpm are you shifting out of park at?

metallica21156

it would sit around 650. it also lunges in reverse a little. didn't know if that would help.

BlazerLT

650? Well, that is not bad.

Of course the truck will want to move forward a bit.

Aren't you exaggerating a bit?

i never had a car do it to me before. it slides so i don't really care about that. i'm want to know about the shifting really. its more important to me. the truck has 72,800 miles on it.

Have you ever got the tranny serviced?

New Fluid and Filter?

metallica21156

it did before i took it in and after. the fluid looked real bad and i had the system flushed last feb. so its good to go. the fluid still looks bright red. i've only put 2,000 miles on it since it was done.

Your Tranny is computer controlled.

Reset your computer and see if that helps. Pull ECM fuse out of the fuse block on the driver's side end of the dash.

i've done that before. my SES light was set off 2 times when i had to change my O2 sensors. it didn't make any diff.

Do you have the check engine light now?

Have you had your codes scanned lately?

When did you last reset the computer?

metallica21156
09-13-2004, 08:57 PM
i reset it about a week ago. it was reading a EGR code which i fixed and then reset the computer. other then that there was no codes about the tranny. i looked my self and didn't find any.

Time to go to a transmission shop.

Mine sometimes has a slow 1-2 shift.

Honestly, is it shifting that bad?

metallica21156
09-13-2004, 09:11 PM
it likes to hang in 1st untill about 2,500 even not pushing the gas hard at all and then once it's in 2nd it shifts out of it at 1,500 not pushing it. i asked a tranny guy one time and he said the valve body might be slipping.

So the truck is still accelerating when it shift into 2nd?

metallica21156
09-13-2004, 09:17 PM
yes. but all of the other gears will shift below 2,000 where no matter how hard you push it it will always shift out of first above 2,000.

BlazerLT
09-13-2004, 09:22 PM
Oh for the love of chirst, yes, it will shift at 2500rpms from 1st to second.

Mine does.

Why are you comparing gears for? They can't be directly compared.

metallica21156
09-13-2004, 09:25 PM
does it shift hard into first gear hard or soft for you? mine kinda slams in so i might take it in to see what it really is.

Hard from what, from park....from 2nd? What?

"i asked a tranny guy one time and he said the valve body might be slipping."

How does a valve body slip?

Do some reasearch on the net.

I recommend google for your searches.

metallica21156

what should i search for. it shifts hard from 1st to 2nd.

BlazerLT

I would almost think a vehicle speed sensor is bad.

how come its only in those gears and how come it doesn't do it when i'm pushing the truck hard. the MPH is still right. thats not off.
