well i bought an escort for 200 bucks about two weeks ago and it was running really good then all of a sudden out of nowhere it just started running really sluggish and it turns out it wasn't firing on one of the cylinders. we replaced the plugs, wires, and got a new coil, but it still doesn't fire on the number one cylinder. the ignition coil to me looks like the distributor because all the plug wires plug into it but when we replaced it, it did no good. and if anyone has any info on where the distributor is on this vehicle let me know. any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 1.9L doesn't use a standard distributor. The timing is generated from the computer and the coil that you already replaced generates the timed spark. I wish I could tell you where to look next but I've never heard of this kind of problem not being related to plugs, wires or coils. Personally I would look into the sensors. The 91 model especially is infamous for having unreliable sensors
