I have a 96 Nissan 240sx SE, but it came with an open diff. I just bought an OEM VLSD new (for a 240sx, unsure of the year though), my question is weather or not the new differential will fit into my cars diff housing? and if so what parts should be replaced when rebuilding a differential (gaskets, oil, etc. . . what else?) Thanks for any help you can offer.

it should be r200v i believe. Just make sure you have the vlsd diff cover cause the vlsd needs to hold more gear oil.

to service a diff, just pull off the cover...for a rear type.... and let all the fluid drain out... careful used gear oil is some nasty shit........
clean off the cover and differential surfaces with a sander where they touch, then SILICONE then together... no gaskets.
thats pretty much all you can do for maintenance on a differential..
