heres the deal. ive started saving for a project car, and im looking into a 91-93 integra (i think they look keen) but id like to switch engines (who didnt see that comming?). ideally, id like to drop in a newer LS engine and go with a vortech supercharger. now the question is

can i keep the original tranny with the newer ls engine...could i keep it even with a newer GS-R engine...would i want to keep it? whats the difference in gear ratios between all the trannys? basically, i want to know if i can get away with just an engine swap, of i need to save for the whole thing. (keep in mind, i road race, i dont drag all too much)

because ur staying with the b-series motor, whether it be the b18b1 (94+ ls) or the b18c1 (94+ gsr) there shouldn't be a problem keeping the original transmission. would u want to keep it? thats up to u. gsr trannys have a shorter gear ratio causing it to rev acutely quicker in rpms' thus making it accelerate faster than the longer ratio of the ls. if u have the money and think this is a good idea, go ahead. if u want to save money since this isn't going create a huge difference between the two tranny, stay with the ls.

so, the smaller the number the taller the gear ratio then? cuz all the numbers on the GS-R tranny are larger then the LS tranny. (though there isnt too much difference, i think i will stay with the LS)

Thank you both.

from what i hear the LS tranny is best for the trubo/supercharger app. but the syncro's in our transmissions suck.

If you drop in a 94 ls motor in. You will need a hydro tranny. You cant swap a hydro into a cable. If you swap out the motor, just get a complete swap with the tranny. Itll save you the xtra work from converting the hydro into a cable.

PS: Look at this for the reference and tranny swapping possibilities.

shouldn't matter if the motor was originally coupled to a hydro tranny or not, a motor is a motor. you can take a newer motor out of a car that had hydro tranny and hook it up to your car with cable tranny no problem. if you swap in a newer tranny though that is hydro and get rid of the cable tranny you will need to do some work .

hhmm. im going to have to do some research on this, i know that they have different trannies from the sec to the third gen. so something tells me this won't just be a simple engine swamp, one example, they have different ecu's. again about the tranny, i might be wrong, guess i'll have to find out.
