adiabatically-cooled intake air

Hey I got an idea for cooling intake air w/o restriction

I just remembered something from physics last year, I think it's callec adiabatic cooling, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway here's an example of it. Hold your fingers in front of your mouth, and blow on them normally.
Now make a *small* O with your mouth. Blow on your fingers. The air will be colder than when your mouth was a big O.

This type of cooling is called adiabatic cooling and I think if someone designed an intake pipe with an inlet hole that is smaller than the rest of the pipe, you would get that same cooling effect.

Free cooling for your intake air? Post up, guys

Are you blowing with the same force as when your mouth was in the big O? In that case, the reason why it feels colder would be because the air is moving faster, and carrying away more saliva from your fingers.
And an intake pipe with a smaller inlet than the rest of the pipe would just be a restriction.
Free cooling for your intake air? Good luck with that, and lemme know the results of your search.

it's not just when you blow thru your mouth, there are other examples. For instance, there's an experiment I talked to my teacher about where hot air can be put into a balloon, and attaching the full balloon to a hole in a beaker will cool the air in the beaker. IT has to do with the volume of the air.....

Anyway it would still sound pretty cool because the engine would be sucking the air thru a small hole, maybe sound like a tiny blower

ok...
You should just edit your last little paragraph to "the engine would be sucking."

The example with the baloon has nothing to do with cooling, it's just that the density increase when cold.

There is no such thing as free cooling. The temperature of a gas decreases when it's expanding, that is when the pressure drops. But since the pressure drops the density will also decrease, engine power also.

Also, remember that the maximum airspeed through a hole is mach 1, after that it won't flow any more. This is used in racing to limit the power of the engines, used in WRC, LeMans and so on.

Eh w/e. back to the drawing board.

And psychorally i'd like to see you come up with an idea even HALF as half-baked as mine

I can't.
Below my range of thought.
MAYBE, if I got REALLY shitfaced....

i thought this was personal already???

eh. guess not if u put it that way. i dont respond well to that i guess.
no hard feelings bro ill edit it out

EDIT: just took it off the last post. i didnt get it why you'd be makin a personal attack either, think i read it in the wrong tone. w/e im not a jerk like that hah

When I made that "you should edit..." comment, I was trying to use a little humor...obviously, the idea wasn't shared...
And my reply to your response was only because I wasn't in a particularly good mood, and I didn't enjoy getting hammered on like that...
But, whatever, it's in the past, and I promise I'll try to be a little more "obvious" with my humor....
