the light i was talking about is located on top of the pullout ashtray. in mine its a small blue bulb the illuminates my coins that i keep in there.

please excuse me for the confusion.

it wouldnt happen to be about 7.5 volts? it may be a farfetched guess but its a guess none the less. can anyone make my assumption valid?

It is probably a 12v bulb, the same voltage as the battery. It may be reduced by the dashboard dimmer knob.

It'll be 12v. But you'd have to check the fuses and/or wiring diagram to find out how much current the circuit is intended to supply (and DON'T put a bigger fuse in -- the wiring may not be able to handle it, and you'll have a big electrical mess, or, worse, a fire).

The best auxiliary power souce is the cig lighter. The newer cars don't even have a cig lighter - they just plug the socket with plastic and call it a power outlet!

one more question. if i were to wire it to an electronic device that requires only 7.5 volts, would any complication occur? (i.e. putting to much power to the device and probably messing it up)

would i bebale to place a smaller fuse on there?

Yes - you'd mess it up. Fuses do not control voltage, they control amperage. If you have a device that needs 7.5v, then I suggest you go to Radio Shack, explain the situation, and they will probably be able to sell you a voltage converter (I have one that supplies 3v, 6v, 7.v or 9v when plugged into the cig lighter). Take the device in with you if possible.

yes, radioshack will hook you up.

yeah, I think that you don't know the difference between voltage and watts.

Easy, ec437. Not everyone aced Physics. Some of us are electricians, some aren't.
