Any Trick For This?

Ok, my friend has a 91 rex an everything is fine on the car but the engine light is constantly on -i know it doesnt matter it will still pass inspection but he is tired of looking at :rolleyes: - besides using a computer to turn it off is there any kind of way to by pass it an just turn it off? with out taking out the bulb...?

try resetting the ECU, pull the fuse under the hood (passengers fenderwell) leave it out for 30 seconds or so and put it back in. Also is the ecu throwing any codes? Pull back the carpet on the passengers side footwell and start the car up and there is a light that will flash codes.

Yeh i would check to see if its throwing any codes. I had a poor mans type r swap and i never seen the engine come on before...except when my vtec wires came loose :)

ya gotcha - i check 4 codes then disconnect the battery an reset an check 4 codes again - thanks guys ....

What is the code(s) it is having. Maybe something that is easy to fix and would probably increase his gas milage and give him more power. when check engine light goes on it goes into closed loop mode as has been discussed before this make the ecu run to a factory preset condition fuel map not altered by the sensors. Alot more goes on but you get the point.

hehe ive got a funny story about check engine lights. My friend has a 90 teg ls and he had an extra ls ecu when he got that he chipped for his b16 til he got his vtec wired up and we all wanted to put his original comp in my car to see if id get any big gains like our friends hf rex did. So we put it in and it revved like a little bitch and the check engine light kept comin on. The codes it was throwing were like retard codes so we were like wtf. Then our friend john who had the rex was like wait what is this a dx and i was like yeah and he was like dpfi no wonder, and i was like oh yeah thats right. Well it was funny when it happened bc we thought there was something wrong with ym car.
