Crazy Speedometer??

my boy just swapped a C1 in his EK hatch and now the speedometer has just gone nuts!! everything else works fine in his cluster. it kind of jumps from time to time especially when the engine is revved-up or when vtec engages. even at idle it could bounce from 0-40-60-0-20 etc. its not something consistent but its annoying and the speedo has become undependable. Anybody ever experienced this or know what it could be and what can be done about it??

yes - the speedo cable is probably not all the way in an it may be just gettin hit sometimes an the not so it would make it jump up an down on the gauge. Also the cable could of been damaged when you guys reinstalled it because the part that sends at the end of the cable that goes in the trans is acually plastic an might have broken or chipped, which to tell you the truth is not hard to do, so pull the cable out check it out first then if it looks ok or if possible look at another cable an make sure they are like. if everything looks cool ya prob. didnt have the cable all the way down or set in correctly... good luck man

thanks, i'll check those out! ive also been told that the speed sensor on the C1 tranny might be bad. anybody know how to replace this or if an easy fix or does the tranny need to come out??

this may just be silly but im pretty sure that the ek hatches dont use speedo cables. they should use vehicle speed sensors. Take a look in a manual.

88-91 use a speedo cable, the 92-95 use a speed sensor ...... the speedo cable can be loose and cause a crazy speedo...so can a bad speed sensor.......

gunn is correct...if it is cable probably missing the clips to the cable to secure it in there...how it was on my crx when i bought it, the speedo didnt work but would jump up and down like a ball bouncing down the road...haha...went to honda dealer got the clips for cable put them on and now it works perfect

yep, its a speed sensor, i'll check that out. ive been told its easy to replace(just 2 screws) but abit costly to buy new.

ya....look on ebay never know might find one cheap...dude i could gave you a speed sensor, but being me i didnt think about it threw tranny away cause a cracked housing
