I have a bet going I know this guy who wants 1/2 mile to get rolling at the mark 1/2 miles from start whenhe gets to the line (top speed on 2003 road king is about 110 MPH, I can leave the line and race next 1/2 mile. I know I can match his speed in around 5 seconds and top speed on my BUSA is over 185, So the question is, do you think you can make up the drifference of him at top speed and pass him in 1/2 mile. I think it can be done but want some motor heads to reply.

so he gets to start a half mile behind you and then when he passes you you get to go and the 2 of you actually race from the half mile mark for another half mile ehh?
If that is the way you 2 are racing then he will run the second half in 16.364 seconds. The best way to determine if you can beat him racing this way is if you go and run a half mile drag and see what your time is... if you can beat 16.364 then you should be able to beat him... but again that is only if he is going exactly 110 mph.
hope this helps
later
Ohh and if you are racing that way you will probably have to run it even faster because your friend doesnt have to worry about reaction time in this case... you on the other hand(I can most guarantee) will either be jumping the gun or starting off to late... so with that said you will probably have one hard ass time beating him.

The harley he is driving does not even go 110 I can get a quarter in around 10 seconds ar 140 then i still pull to the 1 mile mark, the rule on the start is I cannot leave the 1/2 mark until he passes ) but i can go back 10 feet to help with the start.

well if u can get through that half mile in around 16 seconds you should be alright... but just remember this... he will already be in top gear and everything so the only chalenge for him will be to keep going in a straight line... you on the other hand can misshift among many other things so you are the only one who has to demonstrate any form of dragracing skill.
But all in all if you can run the quarter in around 10 seconds at 140mph you should be able to beat him.

i had a stock 2001 hayabusa and i did a rollon run from 70mph-184mph and it took ~15seconds for me to reach that top speed frpm 70mph. you say you can do a 1/4 mile run in 10seconds. that leaves you with another 1/4 mile run you will have to complete in 6 seconds. i dont think you are going to make it. if you make 1 small mistake you are done. it will take 6.4 seconds to reach the quarter mile at a speed of 140mph and you only have 6 seconds to spare assuming you can do the first quarter mile in your stated 10seconds at 140mph. since you will be accellerating, i figure you will gain a 1/2 second for every 10mph gain in speed from your first quarter mile speed of 140mph. the math states you will make it, but dont F^%K up because it looks close. a 1/2 second loss might be enough to lose it. before you bet money you might want to do what beast22k recommends. practice and see what you can do it in.
good luck!

Hey the other guy backed out (YEA) I was thinking it would be close and the start would not be pretty. Thanks for the input guys.
