2004 crazy horn

Well, about 1:30 am this morning I was awakened by a piericing constant horn. I (and my neighbors) narrowed it down to my 2004 Durango Limited. (only 600 miles). Horn would stop and then a few minutes later sound constant. I got the owners manual and figured out where the Relay (or fuse) is and pulled it out. This temporarily solved the problem or at least got the neighborhood through the night. This morning I replaced the relay and same problem. Called the sales department of my dealership (Service is closed today, Saturday). Salesman told me to hit the horn. When I did that the horn would not blow. Then, all of a sudden it sounded constant again. I will be at the service department first thing Monday. In the meantime, anyone experience anything similiar? I am assuming a short or an adjustment in the airbag/horn area. I did notice when I picked up the vehicle that the horn needed quite a firm push to sound.

Maybe it's possessed.

Best of luck.

If it would have sounded after I pulled the fuse, I would have been afraid.

Dealer had to order a new airbag cover. I'll bet they ripped it while trying to get to the horn mechanism. If it goes off after I get it back I will be really PO'd.

the saga continues. Brought it in on Monday. They ordered the Airbag cover/horn switch. Tuesday - no part expected till thursday. I decide to pick it up and bring it back to the dealer when the part comes in. When I pick it up the interior is filthy (car has 700 miles on it) Greasy footprints on the running boards, on the carpet next to the seat, greasy steering wheel and console. I freak out. I get a call back on Wednesday promising me that the truck will be detailed to factory freshness when I bring it back for the part. Wednesday - I am at work, wife goes out to start the Truck and the battery is bone dead no power at all. They tell me I must have left a light on. (What about the battery rundown protection that automatically shuts off lights that you forget on?) My brand new truck gets hoisted on a flatbed and goes back to the dealer. Thursday 3:00 - still no updates. I called twice today and each time they tell me they will get back to me.

WTF. Am I getting shafted or what. What could they have done to cause the car to go dead like that? What do I do now? I need this truck to be reliable for the wife and three kids.

If I don't hear anything soon, my head is going to pop off.

Sorry, I needed to vent.

Relax, please. This is an very common problem with 04 Durangos. They have a problem with the airbag cover which is the horn pad/switch as well. It will fix your problem. Steve.

I can understand that the horn switch is defective. Its the dirty interior and the dead battery and lack of communication by the dealer thats killing me.

Maybe go to another dealership. If you continue to have other problems on your new vehicle, time to check your state's lemon laws.

I was driving in to work today when my horn just started blaring. I tried to push it to see if it was stuck but nothing worked. I pulled off of the road and it stopped for a minute then came back on. I then went further down the road and it went on and off a few more times. I pulled into the next parking lot and popped the hood, I can not even find the horn under there. When I turn the headlights off the horn stops when I turn them back on the horn goes right back to it.

Pull the horn Relay out from under the hood. Its in the Black relay box to the left side of the engine. That should get it quiet until you get it to the dealer.

Are you saying that you had to replace the fuse box on a 2001 like mine or was it a newer one (2004) like the first message of this post?
