The wife was using the moon roof and it stopped about half way. It will move a little in either direction then starts to grind. (in either direction)
We were able to close it by me pushing on it while she opperated the switch. Any ideas? The moter is working is there a tefflon gear that needs to be replaced? I know these are tough to work on but I don't mind if I have the spare time and a little direction. I sure can't afford to take it in.
Blessings

ps It can stay closed if it gets too hairy.

Not sure if it's the same problem I had on my '90 Camry, but the quotes for repair - meaning replacement of cables, was $200/side, or $400. Only Toyota sells the exact cables needed.
I took apart the front of the headliner searching for a solution, and it appeared that the plastic gear and cables were no longer meshing. Needless to say, rather than fork over $400, I used caulk to seal the glass and let it go.
Maybe someone else has a better solution.

Could be there is a stick or rock stuck in the mechanism.
I have the instructions on taking the roof and motor out, if it comes to that.

Brian R., I wouldn't mind seeing the instructions you have. I might decide to tackle the job again some day.
