Removing Air Silencer..Is it Worth it??

Alot of people do this, cause it restricts air flow to the air box/intake. But is it really worth a damn?? Did you notice a differance?? I recently took out my KN panel air filter and put in a stock fram papaer one. I was rinsing the kn with light water, and once everything was cleaned-you can see little holes in the material-ALL OVER. They say the oil is special and blocks everything-bull****. I didn't notice a hair differance taking it out either.

Well, the silencer was designed to quiet down the air.It had nothing to do with performance. But mostly all you get from pulling that thing out is about 3/4's of a horsepower and some wind noise at higher speeds.
As for the filter, the oil does make a big difference,as thats what blocks out the little things from the air.
If it didnt have those little holes you say you saw, then it would just be another air filter.Thats the performance secret behind the filter design.Hence the need for the oil.
Another thing,if your engine is stock, then it wont make much of a difference.Especially with the panel filter.I would explain it all here, but it will take me about a week to do so.So just click the link below to see the monumental thread...

If it's not much of a difference horsepower-wise, I'd keep it on. I took mine off and did notice a slight difference in sound, but that was it. As the rainy season approaches, however, I'm puttin mine back on. I don't want to get my air filter wet, as it is totally exposed to the pavement when you remove the silencer. And once I get it back on, it's staying on for good.

If you want the nice deep sound at full throttle take that thang out.. But to tell the truth its not going to make a differnce in performance much. I only took mine out cause i had a Mac performance Intake to put in. do it if you wanna make ur bird sound a lil better. the only thing is it takes a while to take that anouying rock shield off.

I didnt take the entire rock shield off, just that one side. Just take out the 4 or 5 screws toward the fron end, and I think there might be one of those pins, as well. After that, it's really flexible, so all you need to do is bend it a little, and wiggle the silencer to get it out.
And look out for Black Widows! I found one with an egg sack behind that thing when I was removing it.

i took mine off a ford escort and the higher rpm performance drasticly improved, maybe im just a 4-banger, who knows! this calls for a dyno!
