Power steering or not?

If i was to remove the power steering on my 1989 how much difference would i feel in the steering? Would it still be 1 1/2 turns lock to lock or would it be more? I know it would be harder to steer but will it increase the amount of turns lock to lock?

There shouldnt be an increase on wheel to wheel lock. harder to turn? harder to turn is not the word to best describe this phenomenon. Why are you wanting to get rid of Power Steering? Or is it your buying one w/out?

find an empty road, go 65mph, then turn the key off and coast, you'll lose power steering and you can try it out for your self.

I'm not sure why you want to take it off though =\

Its not that i want to get rid of power steering, it's just that i need to get new power steering hoses and was wondering what it would be like without power steering on it.

Does anyone know where to get 91-94 power steering lines besides a junk yard, because the island i live on doesn't even have any 240's in the junk yard.

Mine doesnt have it... (Weight Reduction y0!11!) ive got the pump but i think the bearing in it is messed up. (shaft play so the wheel grinds on the bracket) I havent deicded if im going to put it back on... Its not hard to drive without it. I actually like having to make an effort to get it to turn but parallel parking can get annoying.

yea my power steering is out also.....you get used to it, except when you drive a car that has power steering again you tend to jerk the wheel because its so smooth lol.....but yea its not difficult to drive it....like RW240 said any slow speed sharp turns (parallel park) will be a bitch.

power steering reduces power loss.... the entire powersteering system weighs 25lbs. Manual Steering in such a light car is really easy. I had manual steering in my rb and I enjoyed it while driving it hard but while parking and slow turns it got annoying. Manual steering gives you better road feel but at slow speed its hard to turn, Power steering numbs most of your road feel.

Yeah i know it will be a bitch when going slow because i have an old truck that doesnt have and it sucks for parallel parking. My main concern is that it is 5 1/2 turns lock to lock and i dont want my 240 to be like that.

the reason your truck is 5 and a 1/2 is because trucks have different lock to lock like you can be going down the road in a truck adn turn my dads truck steering wheel lik 30 degrees and it doesnt move at all

i got it...you are swaping a engine in aren't you? maybe a sr20? The fact that he has a 89 sohc engine with the powersteering and resevoir on the other side, you would have to get the 91-94 power steering lines to install the sr20 on a 89-90 240sx. He can't find the lines for the 91-94 and was thinking of just driving with no powersteering.....Just find the lines and resevoir..you don't want to drive a car with an sr20 or a ca18 without it...really you don't want to drive any car without it...all it is good for is to work out your fore arms to have a stronger stroke lol

Yeah that is what i am doing and i am having trouble finding the lines at a junkyard. Do you know anywhere that sells them on the mainland? I already have the resevoir because i got the whole front clip, i just need the high pressure lines.

Do you think a Nissan parts place will have them?

couldn't you get someone to bend lines for you? try car-parts.com and ask around to see if they sell the lines. You have email them cause there is no category for the lines.
