wrx?

mid to high 13's on a STOCK wrx sounds extremely optimistic to me. stock z28 camaros run around mid 13's regularly. i always thought that stock 02 wrx's run low 14's. tell me if i'm wrong, but my friend informs me that wrx's have no top end. i was just wondering if this was true, considering he owns a 02 wrx himself.

i was comparing a prelude w/ intake mods and 75 shot to a 02 wrx with an AEM cai by the way..

Ive always heard high 13s to low 14s. Road and Track had an article for the best cars under 25k.....and it had 1/4 times for the GT, Maro, and WRX

Mustang GT:14.7s@ 94.7mph

WRX: [email protected]

if they only got 94 mph through the 1/4 mile, they werent doing something right... i get 96 mph in my non turbo impreza. theyre not doing it right, its a strange thing to properly launch an impreza, u dont just drop the clutch, cuz the awd grips so good it will bog down, even at redline. but u dont slip it either cuz that takes away the advantage of being able to drop it and not slip. its more of a:

1.drop it at redline

2.as soon as u feel it start to bog, push the clutch to the floor and drop it a 2nd time, keeping the gas pedal all the way down the whole time.

3.then after the 2nd drop, push it in a very slight amount again, hold it for maybe 1/2 second, then drop it for good.

okay i know that sounds like a bunch of shit i just pulled out of my ass, but trust me, ive taken my impreza down our actual timed dragstrip many many times, prob over 100, hell i was there THE NIGHT i bought it. and i have gained over 1.5 seconds on my time by practicing this to get the timing just right, so i dont have to wait to "feel" the right moment its just instinct. however i cant verify step 3 for the wrx, it may have enough power to not need that, but for us 2.5 liters its a big help. and to those who say this will blow the clutch, all i can say is it must be a hell of a clutch cuz ive got 20,000 miles of this behavior, like i said over 100 times on the real strip and prob another 150 on the street, clutch still feels perfectly strong!

give me a stock wrx and a set of timing lights, i will almost guarantee u a 13.something repeatedly. i may not know much, but i know how to drag race an impreza

you know what the WRX has a nice gearbox close ratio and its not optimistic its realistic .... I've driven one its solid and extremely quick....

I find that the non-turbo impreza is a blast to drive. Yesterday my dad and I had some free time so we threw a Unorthodox underdrive crank pulley on his '99 2.5RS and it did a world of good. The thing revs much faster and is a lot more fun to drive. I plan on buying it from him when the payments are up, a turbo miata for the summer and a NA Impreza all modded up for the winter sounds good to me:D

definately! i love my car its the most fun of any car ive ever driven. and ive driven a lot of cars, some of which were faster than mine, a few that were a LOT faster, but my impreza is the most fun. its more fun than any wrx i have driven too, got better throttle response!

well... obviously... i would recommend one. and i think pretty much anyone else who has one would also recommend it.

would you op for a new turbo'ed wrx or the NA one? your impreza must have an extremely outstanding drivetrain since your dumping the clutch at redline constantly. i have never driven any impreza's or RS's, but with all the hype you guys are giving it, i'm looking forward to driving one!

and to nismodrifts: it'll probaly be easy to beat a lot of the mustangs, but if you plan on working the LS1 camaro's/firebirds, u better have some good mods in mind! you might not get pullled that hard in a 1/4 mile, but anything more than 1/4, you're toast. you probaly have a bid advantage on the ls1 cars in the tight tight corners though!

yeah i plan on modding it out the ass as soon as cash becomes available. Thanks, looks like im in, coz it was either that or the firebird, and i think the 'preza would be so much easier to live with. Oh well, i have til like the end of this summer to save up my cash

I would recomend the older style 2.5 RS Impreza all day long over the new WRX. Yes the WRX is turbo, but really its not THAT impressive and in opinon does not look as good as the older bodystyle. While NA the 2.5RS is awsome to drive, I can take almost anything off the line. It does peeter out up top but that can be fixed with a turbo kit. There are a couple of good kits out there, take a look at I-Club.com (http://www/i-club.com) and the forum ofVishnu performance (http://www.vishnuperformance.com), both will have good suggestions of mods both an NA 2.5RS and taking the 2.5RS to the next level with a turbo kit. The kit that Vishnu sells is an awsome kit! Not sure if you have seem it, but the guy who writes up the Sport Compact Car project impreza 2.5rs has got 290 whp on 92 octane California pee, runs Vishnu performance and has made a turbo kit of his own that is getting rave reviews. Check it out, if you get a chance to drive a 2.5 do it, you might get hooked. Then there is the Miata, but thats another thread....:)

And trust me, the Impreza is a whole lot easier to live with, put it this way, here in Chicago about a week ago we got 12" on snow, and I took my dad's 2.5RS out and had more fun that should be legal!!(wait it WAS illegal):D

Yeah, the SCC article said that right off the lot it accelerates like a stuck pig.........and that turned me off to it coz itll be stock for at least a couple of months after i buy it.

Although i think its gonna be my car if i can afford it, thanks everyone

if u wanna wail on ls1 camaros, u can do it in a non turbo impreza just launch like hell youll put a couple lengths on em then stop racing and be like "u see how bad i took off on u theres no point in going any further" theyll never know! but seriously, i raced a new body z28 one night on the street, he had ram air, headers and exhaust and someone said he had ported heads but i cant verify that, but he didnt catch me for a LONG time and was about 2 lengths ahead of me at the end. i may not have beat him, but hell im still a stock 4 cylinder station wagon, i think i did damn good! he gave me props anyways. i beat a supercharged dodge ram one night too, i dunno how but i did.

OHH OHH! i beat a 2001 z28 with nitrous on the real dragstrip! i launched and pulled 2 lenghts on him and i dont think he expected that to happen so he sprayed too early and BAM! there goes his motor  little did he know he didnt even have to spray he woulda caught me before the end on the motor alone. but he doesnt know that so dont tell him!

haha! good kill ldelaysionl, begginner racers with an abundance of money and power... har har harrr!

i took a 1.8T jetta up to 55 two weeks ago. i started with half a carlength, and ended up a half a carlength by 55 mph. she was about to pass me at around 50, but that dummy forgot to shift(she has tiptronic). she was(and still is) about my 155 hp van beating her newish jetta. but gosh.. the sound of the turbo is AMAZING!

IDelay, a Z28 with full exhaust and ported heads wouldn't have a problem with you. I could see one with stock heads maybe having trouble catching up, especially if it was a manual trans.

I'd be MORE then happy to race ya. Cars coming out this weekend.
She'll be ready to tear some shit up.
:D

im quite aware a z28 with those mods will kill me, hell a stock z28 shouldnt have too big of a problem with me, but sometimes the other guy doesnt quite have the racing experience they need...

ill race ya! i know youll leave me like its nothing, but what the hell i dont care :D if i was afraid to lose then i shouldnt be racing in the 1st place.
