My 1998 528 Is Shifting Hard From 2nd To 3 Rd. Is It Normal For Automatic?

not really...rtolll...
You see i had the same problem with mine also...
does it sometimes give off a violent (or slight) jerk when it finally shifts...?? If so, then don't worry it's not your transmission going out...but you will need a transmission flush... After a while the trans fluid goes all gooey and stickey and creates hinderance while shifting...by the way, shifting from 2nd to 3rd is one of the hardest shifts for most bimmer transmissions....
- ask any bmw dealer to do the flush (or any certified pro)...
