I have an 88 honda civic. The car has a problem of being unable to hold idle. When I start in the morning it revs well then starts to go up and down untill it goes out. I have to hold the gas pedle some to keep the engine running. While driving, If I am comming to a stop or have to let off the gas peddle, I have to either ease off slowly to let the rpms settle arround 1k or have to tap the gas after release to stabilize the Idle rpm so it do not quit. I have tried setting the idle higher but then after abit of driving the car go into a wild high idle to about 2.5k and have to push the peddle with my foot for it to release and let down the rpm.

Could very well be the Main Relay. I'm not 100% sure but it sounds like it. Also check for vaccum lines being loose or off there connections. A vaccum diagraphm is under the hood to show u.
