I have this weird problem with my 1996 maxima. When I turn the key, the engine does not start. I turn back the key and try to start it again and the engine starts normally. Should I replace the starter ..could this be an electrical problem or maybe just needs a new battery? Thanks!

I have the same problem with my 96 maxima. My check engine light came on and the indication is that both of my o2 sensors may be bad. The problem is intermittent, but still an inconvenience...

I had the same thing happen. I had an automotive electical guy look at it and he found a short in the wiring in the steering column. It works great now..

I too have that problem on my 95 max. The thing is, I recently had my starter and battery replaced. My next move is to check the button that the clutch pushes in (I have a manual). I know that if it is not pushed in all the way the car will not start. That is because when you push the clutch pedal in,it pushes a button(inside the car behind the pedal) that allows it to start. Anyways, it is possible that it is dirty or what not and is not properly connecting. Let me know what you think.
