i proved to my friends how crappy of a driver i am.

everytime me and my friend with the EVO races he always gets me on the shifts becusae he just shifts much faster then me. they never believe me when i tell them. "yo we shit at the same point and whenever your done shifting your car would leap ahead by a car on every shift. so to elimate this we switched cars. i was driving his EVO and he was driving my car. so we did it from a 10 mph roll.

on the third honk the EVO jumped by half a car becuase his turbo is waaay more responsive then mine. and the lead stayed the same. the EVO could not pull on the 240. i even heard the 240 chirp goin to third when he was right next to the EVO. so in the end that just proves that my car is almost as fast as a EVO from 0-100mph. its just that i suck at shifting.. now to finalize this my friend with the STi gotta drive my car and my friend with the EVO needs to drive his car. then it would be a perfect race. i would assume that my car would still lose by 1 car.

then after the run we were letting the turbos cool off and we see this 87 supra turbo blowing off next to us. so my friend ran to his EVO and hoped inside and started chasing him. he finally caught him at the light and the kid was goin to homedepot. and he said he would race when hes done. so like 15 minutes later the kid with the supra came back. he was acting all hard and shit. that supra sounded and looked like it was running higher boost, and had a blow off valve, intake and exhuast. so my friend was being nice and asked him how he wanted to race ( from a stop or from a roll). well hes like whatevers man.

so we did the usual run pattern. they lined up at the light and went from a dig first one direction. the light turns green. my friend feathers the clutch alittle too much and the EVO wasn't moving. but once he realized that. he left off the clutch alittle more and the EVO just took off. by the point were the EVO would normaly hit 60mph he was already 5-6 cars ahead of the supra. it wasn't even close. so on the opposite direction heading back. they ran from a roll. my friend was even nice enough to give him a head start. on the 3rd honk they went. the supra went first then the EVO went and just passed him like nothing and just kept on pulling on him. since no one was behind it was hard to tell home many car lead it was since it was heading towards us. but i'm guesing it was least another 4-5 cars lead from a roll.

after that my friend with the STi came out and tried driving my car. the first time he took it out and he drive my car. he spun goin 1st to second, and he spun goin 2nd and 3rd and i'm liek damn!!!! i can't even chirp goin 2nd to 3rd. let alone spun it. so that just means i gotta practice practice practice. grrrr

cliff notes:

raced EVO i was driving his car and he was driving my car. the car pulled the same with the evo getting 1/2 car lead from teh beginning cause he spooled up faster. however i feel that with a better driver in the evo and my friend driving my car. the EVO should still come out 1 car ahead with my front bumper by his rear bumper.

evo raced lightly modded 87 supra. from a stop he beat him by 5-6 cars to 60mph. from a roll with the evo giving him head start he beat him by 5-6 cars to 90ish.

i suck at shifting casue i always grind goin to third so i'm scared to shift fast. but i will try to practice.

That used to happen to me every time i shifted to third. Than I realized that when you shift from second to third you don't have to move the shifter to the right to find third. All you have to do is just push it up, but that was when i was barely learning how to drive MANUAL.

spinning the tires is bad though, but you know that.
i have always liked your car and i am still thinking about getting one some day.

shifting is the easyest part of the race the hardest part is getting a good start. :chair: :slap: and yes i drive an RX7 non turbo and i did get smoked by devil man's Integra when i was driving my Tracer but when i fix my engine he will kiss my ass

I agree that chirping too much is a bad thing. When i had my old Dodge colt, i could smoke em like crazy off the line, pull a squak from 1-2, but had nothing from 2-3 just cuz the damn thing had no power.

But the spinning tires means you're not advancing your speed right away, it's actually slowing you down, just like slow shifting. The trick is to find a happy median.

Once you do, you'll be a better street racer. :smokin:

If you have 250whp you should pull on an Evo from a roll. Stock Evo's run around 230 whp on a dynojet. From a roll they really don't do well stock. Of course once you start modding them, like me, they can do it all.

well you gotta understand sometimes its not as easy as just more hp and less weight. its also in the gearing. the EVO is geared better then me. and yes even though the EVO is not the greatest after a roll. they are still geared very very nicely from 0-125mph. so reguarded they are still very quick cars from a roll. also my power delivery isn't exactly the greatest. my turbo is very laggy and i have a narrow powerband. i only have 3K rpm of power where i'm above 200whp. the evo's got like a whole 1-1.5 K rpm of more power over me. so me having more whp vs he having a broader power band evens things out.

and also when i shift to third, i never push up diagonal. i always just push straight up. i'm not that much of a newbie. i can take off fine. i know how to feather clutch and find traction and knows when the floor it after i find traction. but i just can't shift fast. so thats the weird thing. if i race from a stop i can do better from a stop then my friends. or equal because we all know how to take off. however from a roll i lose bad i always either grind or just don't shift bad enough. normally when you shift fast the behavior of the car is suppose to jump straight forward. when i shift, the car goes back. then goes forward. it takes 2 steps. thats when my friends will jump a car on me.

Yeah, I know how you feel man. My Omni pulls quite nicely up to speed once the boost kicks in, but the damn tranny does not lend well to quick shifting. That, and the clutch has quite a bit of distance to it, so my shifting is terrible. Practice makes perfect, though

Tat, are you running a stock clutch or what? I usually try to shift soft going to second. I can get a hell of a chirp out of second, even lose traction on the wrong roads. I just powershift to third though. For a while, third was a pain in the ass, but I got the hang of it and can powershift every gear. I just don't powershift to second.

i'm running on a ACT heavy duty pressure plate with a street disc clutch. the clutch pedal is softer then stock.
