Instrument Cluster Readings

Please HELP!!!

Yesterday after work, I started my 97 528i and a second later all dials went dead except for speedo, and all readings now in miles and in F. It was metric in the morning when I left the car.
I came home and disconnected the battery - didn't help... moreover, my board computer dont work now.
Could this happen because of sun (it was standing in the street from 8 till 17)

Any ideas???

Try this once, Disconnect both battery terminals then touch the cable leads { NOT THE BATTERY POSTS!!! } together for a moment. This will discharge any capacitors. Yes, excessive heat may have contributed to the failure of a marginal "board".
