I have a 1983 Delta 88 307 8 cyl. The other I left my lights on and of course the car would not start the next day. So I did what I have done before with other vehicals and jumped the car. I used a Dodge 350 van to do the job. When I hooked the cables up and sat in the car to start it I noticed wisp of smoke coming from under the hood. Since I was in the car I was not able to see the location of the source of the smoke. The car would turn over but not start. I bought a new battery to no avail. I found out I needed an ignition control module. I replaced that and the car immeditly started up, but would not hold a charge. I then replaced my alternator, and found out the hard way that it was not charging my battery. I spliced in a new in a new harness plug thinking that was the problem. I have had the new battery and alternator tested and both are good. I must have fried something when I jumped the car. Any one have ahny suggestions. Thank you for your time. :banghead:

Try the fuseable link going to the altenator if it has one. Next time dont hook your cables up backwards!

my guess would be to check and make sure the negative battery cable is well grounded to the block and the chassis, check all fuses, and there should be a junction block that the alternator feeds charging current to the battery through, it's somewhere in the engine compartment with several red wires going to it. check that to make sure nothing is corroded are melted.
btw your in the camaro forum, ya might wanna post in the oldsmobile forum from now on since people in here probly arent familiar with delta88's
