transmission

my tranny revvs very high while i'm driving. it shifts out of 1st at about 3500rpm. and it never shifts out of 2nd. i have taken it all the way to 5000rpm and it still doesn't shift out of 2nd. do u think that the problem is my tranny or should i take it to the redline and see if it shifts. my car is a 87 carlo and it has a crate 350 in it. i bought it like that.

you have a bad TV cable. Its a cable that runs from the carb to the trans, and controls shift points. When they stretch, they fall out of adustment, and will cause the trans to shift extremely late, or not at all. They are available at most auto parts stores, and aren't too expensive.

What other symptoms could the TV cable cause? I have transmission problems with my monte. I have not driven in in a while, but, if i recall correctly, it seemed to skip 2nd gear, and didn't want to stop when in gear.
