you mean like a beams engine?
i think beams is the guy that made toyotas VVT system so they named it after him... i'm not sure...bit like Mzda's "miller" cycle
HOWEVER beams is definately the VVT part however it got it's name....

The BEAMS engine is a 200 HP non-turbo engine that was an option after 1996, so it was not avaialbe in the US. There are a few of them here now though.

toyota ceased importation of the mr2 in 1995, though the company continued to make the car through 1998. the later model cars in japan had a gen3 3sgte, on which the major difference from it's previous years are a CT20b turbo and elimination of the AFM. to my knowledge, a BEAMS engine has never been stock in a MR2 of any kind.

that information is incorrect... the stock n/a mr2 in 1998 did come with the single vvti beams 3sge (red top) and the mr2 was produced until 1999 though very few
i also said that there are very few IN THE WORLD since the engine was only found in mr2's for less than 2 years
there arent any stock beams mr2's in america since, like ac427cpe said, the mr2 stopped production here in 1995

so the beam can be installed in my mr2 1987 complete axel, tranny, harnes, cpu if ordered in japan or jdm.

theres slightly under 1000 world wide.
the main BEAMS engine is the the Altezza, or IS-200... but just the JDM version. here the Beams engine has dual VVTL-i (ont the intake and exhaust) but for some reason toyota decided to export the is200 with a 6cyl. So most countries never got them.

sorry dude... that'd be a MAJOR excercise... the engine is a 3S-G engine, so it would bolt in to the 89-99 Mr2 but not the series 1... it can be done dont get me wrong but its a different engine size to the 4A-G in the older Mr2.

ahh dude doesnt BEAMS mean:
BEAMS series ( Breakthrough Engine with Advanced Mechanism System )

Yes, but it is not direct bolt in.

Many people have put the 3SGTE into the MK1, so there is no reason the 3SGE would not fit. As noted above, it will not be a direct bolt in ... but it will fit.

jekyl... i wouldn't say "many" people have done the 1.5 swap, but it isn't impossible. however, for the 3sgte or the BEAMS engine, the main things are that you must be GOOD at wiring, and competant at welding.
i'm not sure the beams engine would fit though, as it is wider than a 3sgte. and there is almost NO room on the side with a 3sgte in a mk1.
a BEAMS powered mk1 was an idea for my next project
wanders off to find a tape measure...

ac427... when you get some results from the tape you wanna let us know.
beams engine is taller... and cause of the actualors on the cam wheels a little longer... but from what i can tell in the MK2 the intake wheel is the close one and the intake had VVT in the late model na's so...it should fir ok.
did you have any probs fitting it Cheng?

ok, if you take into account the amount i can move the engine on the mounts that i welded into the car, there is approx. 4 horizontal inches and 1 and a half verticle inches of movement. i had to clearance the front and rear (yay for hammers + metal working tools) to fit the engine where i wanted it: so the axles don't have foreward or backwards tilt. it also sits pretty low in the car, i might be able to lower it a half inch, but that would have been pushing it.
so, if a BEAMS engine is more than 2" wider from side to side, 2 inches taller, and any wider front to rear (unless you want to cut into the car)... you are gonna have issues fitting it in a mk1

ohhh ummm yes and no
you mean the cam,....... its very very close to the wheel well, i am gonna have to cut,......
but fitting was good, with all the right pieces,....... but had to take it out im using the tranny that was on that on in my 91 daily driver,...... but i did tak pic before i took it out,... sooo sooon it'll be up,... and ill try to list all the things i interchanged and did,....
