Why would you put Nitrous on a friggin ford ranger? or any car for that matter? You can't legally use it on the street, plus its worthless. It gains you just a few ponnies for a few seconds, and if your stupid you'll burn your pistons and then you'll need that 3K for a new engine.

true true and after i thought about it i decided not to because of the 352 and i will be able to get enough horse out of that.........

you will severe mods putting that 351 (not 352) in your ranger. hope you dont need stuff like your front shock towers and firewall. you also need a comp chip flashed specif for what you have on your motor since you have a supercharger on it. i would wait till the 351 comes and do away with the computer all together if you don't have emisions checks.

wow! littledevilbkr23.it sounds like you have some issues to work out with yourself.tell some of those pro racers that use nitros that and they might work out those issues for you!!!

I agree about nitrous in the sense that these ricers nowadays incorperate their NOS in everything. They think its some great thing. True they need to learn how to get horse's out of their engines. The pro racers can do it all they want, because 99% of the time they have well over 700 hp.

yea, see, graphicassult knows what hes talking about, 2000 mudder doesnt. and he trys to make a offroad truck out of a little ranger. chevy 2500 is for offroad, not a ranger man.

if you think nos is so cool, waste your money on a new engine, i had a s10 a year ago with a 75 shot of nos, and it blew my engine. nos is just for those who think there hauling but there doing 120 in a foreign pos.

I didn't see anything that this individual said that was b.s. I don't know why you guys are arguing over nothing. S10Eater said NOS for show only, meaning he won't be using it, if anyone can't understand that.
Different people want different applications. Yea, so and so want's to buy a Dodge Dakota, that's what he wants to do, you gonna argue with him to buy something else?
It's a good idea to keep the stock engine (depending on the application), it's not ethical for S10Eater to put a 351 in his Ranger. For general purposes, the stock engine can move. For example like my 2.9L. I modded it out, and it's faster than anyone would imagine. It's a.k.a the little engine that could.
What I would do with the $3000? Rebuild the motor, focus on cleaning up the engine bay. It is a show car isn't it? Cam the motor, get a new ECU if speed density, get new bigger fuel injectors, bigger TB, bigger MAF, make sure everything is ported and matches properly, bigger valves, better valve retainers & springs. You'll need an air adjuster for your MAF, and I think that's where the chip would come in considering you'll need bigger injectors and the computer is calibrated for different size injectors for S.Cing. Running the MAF air adjuster might yeild a different curve, but it's much cheaper, and it's fine tunable. If you're serious about the super charger, depending on the motor, you might wanna make it bullet proof with forged internals. If you do, it would be worth the extra money to get it balanced. I can see a hole getting burnt in your stock piston if you're pushing too much PSI. I believe that super charged engines require less compression.
If it's a 3.0 slow, forget it man. If you think about the extra horse you're loosing driving that long ass timing chain and 2 cams, just for an engine that lacks torque (Yes, internal cam motors make more torque), it's just not worth it. Spend that $3000 on a turbo 4cyl. or a 4.0L. 2.9 is a little harder, no information and hardly any parts. Nice motor though.
Good Luck

Hey Pete, I know you got a 2.9, I was just wondering what kind of mods you got in it,( different cam, etc.) Just looking to wake mine up a little. thanks.

Yea, I got a bigger cam. My specs are 210 @ .050 .435 Intake and 216 @ .050 .450 exhaust. I think the stock lift is .367 .376 but I am not certain. This cam required me to put a 1990 Ranger MAF ECU in my Ranger, however camcraft makes cams that are computer friendly.
http://www.camcraftcams.com/catalogs/performance/ranger_bronco%20page.htm
They make some nice rocker arms and valve springs too.
Kind of expensive. I had this guy custom grind mine:
http://www.coltcams.com/
$155 for my cam including shipping. He did a wonderful job on it as well.
With out any computer mods, I think you're stuck with headers, 58mm throttle body and a little bit bigger cam. Little things can be done here and there, like matching the upper and lower intake manifolds. I believe the lower intake doesn't match very well with the heads either.
You can also put 4.0L valves in the 2.9 heads. I know getting rid of the air box gains a couple horse power. I there is some free floating rocker conversion that's supposed to help but I haven't looked into it yet. Really anything more aggressive than stated is going to require MAF so the computer can calculate the air fuel ratio correctly.
