Replacing power steering rack

It looks as if I may need to replace the power steering rack on my 1991 SE. From what I can see, it looks like a pretty nasty job. If anyone has been through this, I'd love some pointers.

To clarify - I'd like to know if I have to drop the exhaust to replace the steering rack. One book says that this is necessary, but it looks to me like it might be possible to do this without dropping the pipe. Any input would be really helpful.
