Hey I was wondering where there are some shops that have experience in doing this swap for a decent price. I read in one post that Bumble Bee Engineering does it. However I have searched a lot and cannot find any info about them. So any info is appreciated.

yeah give me your car and 10k and I will give it back with a RB swapped in the best way.Give me more and install some mods, first thing to mod with a RB25 would be an exhaust system, I recromen Apexi-GTspec for its large piping, test pipe, 3" downpipe, Greddy Intake plenum, Spearco intercooler, BOV, Radiator, better hoses, and all the associated plumbing.

I would probably get the mounts for your car since it mounts the engine better, have another company work on the wiring harness, and after that its pretty much simple as pie in mechanics terms.

with the patched wiring harness, mounts, and all parts needed plus the car I could probably do it in a weekend, if not a day of hard labor.

The first engine i pulled was an impala SS, took me 4 hours, that includes cutting off entire exhaust system, removing the hooker headers(PITA with that style) completely removing transmission, unplugging wiring harness and removing it instead of just half ass cutting it, and taking all that fury known as a LT1 out with a engine hoist. Would probably take me 4-6 hours to put back in, usually takes a lil more time to put stuff together. One days job with proper parts ready to be installed.

Other modifications would take time but removing the engine, putting the RB in and getting it running would really only take a day, and im not even that experienced. It just takes some know how, tools, patience, sweat, and proper parts, I can't stress how important it is to have the right tools and parts, it makes the job exponentially easier... You could do this yourself even if u never picked up a wrench before, its not that hard.

Ok, I am a little unsure about what I should do. In less than a week I will be selling my current car. A 1995 AWD Eclipse for 11,000. So I have an 11,000 dollar budget. I have located a 1991 240sx hatchback with a blown engine, for $500.00. I can get an rb25det front clip with the LSD (which I believe will work in the 240, please tell me if I am wrong) for under 2200, plus around 400 for shipping. Now over the last couple months I have read everything I can about this swap etc. The only problem is, I don't know if I should go ahead with the rb25det or just get a rb20det. I can get a rb20det in good condition for 1,000 Shipped. So right off I am saving over 1,500 dollars. From there I do not need the motor-mount kit and custom driveshaft from a place like McKinney Motorsports. I can get custom motor mounts for just over 300. And just use the original driveshaft. (Does anyone know what kind of clutch the rb20det uses or where I can get one at a decent price.) I know the rb25det uses a 90-96 non turbo 300zx. This probably isn't the same for the rb20. Alright basically does anyone know the major pros and cons of between these engines. My car right now has well over 300 hp, So I would be aiming for around 400. Eventually. Does anyone have anything bad about either engine? Anything will help thanks a lot.

Replied to your PM. If you're aiming for 400rwhp i'd go for an rb25det with hks 3037 or similar. I've got 300rwhp with my rb20det but any more power (ie. bigger turbo) and it'll start to get pretty laggy.

ahh I see what your goal is now.......

so take 11,000 dollars, buy that 240sx for 500 bucks, and build up the KA24DE. Pistons, Rods, and overhaul kit is going to run around a grand. Turbo, manifold, wastegate, downpipe will cost around another grand. Stand Alone ECU 1500, cat deletion, catback around 4-500, intercooler, BOV, piping figure under a grand..... and since the motor needs to be rebuilt I'd buy the new PDM turbo bullet cams and install those bad boys.

Id go with a t4-ish turbo, maybe like a .60AR on the compressors, im not the best at reading turbo maps, ask J Spec Sileighty, hes good with that shit.

so for the same price, you could have a weak ready to blow anytime Rb25 installed with some bolt ons....... Or you could go all out on a KA24 with it rebuilt with forged shit, new cams, new bottom end, ready to be abused. If you seriously got a pile of money, want 400hp, and can get a 500 dollar 240sx with a blown KA24de, Id say rebuild the KA and bulletproof that sucker, get all the goodies, engine computer..... in the end its going to be a lot more motor then a stock rb25 with bolt ons.

That does sound like a good Idea, however (I may be stupid)but I have my mind set on an inline 6. Right now I have a 4g63, with AWD. So the possibilites are endless. The car itself can withstand 400+ on the bottom end. However, I am not keeping the car, main reason is I am moving on. I want to experience RWD, and a inline 6. I have had three DSM's now and AWD is nice, but it does have its problems. Thanks for your help guys.
Any more comments are more than welcomed

Your not stupid. You could save a bundle and do that sr20detpower said,I would, but you just have your own specifications for a vehicle. One thing thats on my mind is, will you be using this as a daily driver? If so how will you go about getting the engine made legal?

RB25DE for 2200? and a RB20DE for like 1800? where are you looking? I want to know because shoot ill buy one now... If SR20DET Power will sell me a "FULL" RB25DE with less than 150000 miles that means Crossmember wiring harness and engine and trnasmission for like 3000 ill by one next year... or maybe this year if youll get one with under 120000 miles and ill pay for it this year with a loan most likely.

For monooxide, a RB25DE(T) turbo for 2000 plus shipping around 500, and 200 for the LSD and rear axles. The RB20DET turbo model for 1000 Shipped, 200 more for the LSD. Both of these are front clips with under 50k miles on them.

As for daily driver, yes I will use it for a daily driver. As for making the engine legal. Why would I have to do that. I do not live in Cali, where they do smog tests etc. I live in Illinois.. :( So I wouldn't have to worry about a thing.
I am just trying to decide if I should spend the extra 2 grand for the RB25det.
With buying the car and the 25det, I estimate that I will spend around 6,500. This is including a different intake, a front mount, clutch, timing belt, new exhaust, fans, mounting kit, different driveshaft, boost controller, various guages, Walbro 255 fuel pump, having the wire harnesses spliced together professionally, This doesn't include a SAFC which I would probably get. This is if my friend and I put the engine in ourselves. However, the total could be around 4,500 for the rb20det. Which would leave me with more money to improve other things. Any suggestions? Does anyone know what the max hp for these engines are with the stock turbo, but most other supporting mods?

I didnt even think i just saw the prices and was like I can afford that but then all the stuff you have to buy like (Mounts, Drive Shaft, FMIC and Piping, Electric Radiator Fan, 3" down pipe and test pipe, Clutch Kit, Boost guage, air to fuel guage, Greddy Oil Pan, Battery relocation kit, Walbro Fuel Pump) yea see i didnt even think before i posted...unless someone can tell me a less expensive way:
So far:
RB25DET(wiring,ECU,tran,): 2200-4000
Greddy Oil Pan: 270
DriveShaft: 300- 400
Timing belt: 149
Down Pipe: 250
MAF:(anyone know the diff between type I and II?) 250
Frount Mount Intercooler most likely(stock) 0-1600
Fuel Pump: 250
TotalS: 3669-7169

What are the main differences in the RB20DET and RB25DET HP wise and just the plain differences?

Now that i think about it im gonna save all my money and buy an BR20 or RB25 in a 1-1 1/2 year(s) for sure.

you dont need have the stuff you mentioned.
you need clip 3300+-
you mounts and shaft 1000+-
you need Down pipe 250+-
fuel pump 50+-
then it's just labor and wiring stuff, everything else is gravy

what bad things hav eyou heard about FlashOptions? Im going to buy a timing belt just incase the one that comes with it is CRAP... im gonna get and doesnt the Oil pan interfere with the Front crossmember on a 240SX(91)? I ahve heard it does... but anyways im gonna also see if i can get mckinney to do my wiring harness adjustments for me hopefully... Miata master dont i need to buy a FMIC and the piping because the stock Intercooler doesnt fit in the 204 does it? Thanks for all your guys help

no IC will fi the 240 without cutting. And It is best to go to a FMIC at the install if you plan to do it in the future it just is not needed. and as far as bad things I have heard about people paying and getting nothing. They are out of malayasia so If you get suckkered there is nothing anyone can do about it. And as for the oil pan only the rb26 interferes as long as you get new mounts from somewhere it should all fit just fine. I am gonna get Mck. to do my harness too b/c i hate wires but If I can find a diagram and some instruction from someone on how to do it then I will do it myself. good luck and dont forget to get a CF shift nob it adds like 20 rwhp. ha l8r

monooxide
09-15-2004, 09:29 PM
yea CF Shift KNobs and Decals add (total of 62.675674 RWHP) even in FWD cars its proven lol.... yea im definitely going to mcKinney because McKinney is like only 3-5 hours away so i can go and strangle them and be back for dinner time be because dinner time is anytime.
