limited slip/locking differential

I don't have a Fiero yet, but I was wondering: what are the options?

How much do they cost, what types are available and how hard are they to install?

Do they come stock on some Fieros? If so, which models and what type are they?

All Fiero Transmissions, both manual and automatic, have open differentials. There aren't any off the shelf limited slip units available that I am aware of. There are probably custom manufacturers out there that can make them, one just has to look. (and look, and look, and look)

Shouldn't there be more available since the Fiero shares the same transaxle (Getrag) with a bunch of other FWD cars? Or do Fieros use a different differential?

Would I have to remove the transaxle to get to the differential? Can the gearing be changed? What ratios are available?

Don't all the Fieros that have been modified by adding bigger V-6 and V-8 engines need limited slip differentials, or do they all accelerate slowly while leaving one big skidmark?

FWDs aren't candidates for limited slip, with the driving wheels steering the poor things would need 3 lanes to make a right turn.

You will need to remove the transaxle and split the case to change the differential.

All Fiero getrag final drives are 3.61:1. There is a 3.94:1 final drive that was used in FWD 92-93 Quad Four H.O. cars, and it will bolt right in to the Fiero's 5 speed (getrag that is) but it's no longer available new and hard to find used.

In most drag-only Fiero's, the Differential spider gears are welded solid. Most street cars live with a one wheel wonder.

Now as far as I know, in order to install a LSD in a transaxle you have to modify the case.

Bud's Outback in Tucson AZ makes a beefier 4 puck version of the Phantom limited slip for all transaxles including automatic.
