Fuel Filter Clip

Tried to replace the fuel filter on a 98 cavalier and Ii couldn't figure out
how to undo the little round plastic clip on the filter.I gave up because I didn't want to break it.Can someone please let me know how to undo the clip?Thanks in advance.

you have to push the clip toward the hose, and pull the hose off the filter at the same time... i didnt figure it out till i got pissed and broke the clip off

Thanks Mango, I thought it was something like that but I couldn't get it and I was getting pissed too so I gave up before I broke it Thanks Again.

I was trying to replace my fuel filter last night. I lost patience very quicky, and broke the clip off. Completely. Now the remnants of the clip are stuck in the hose fitting, and the fuel filter is of course still jammed in there.
How did you finish the disassembly and put it back together once the clip was broken?
That "hose fitting" is the metal part at the end of the hose that the "quick connect" inserts inside of. Since mine is a '96, it's all rusty--at least on the outside. Should I now replace this as well?
There is an "X" on the connection between the hose and the fitting, as if to say, "NEVER DISCONNECT AT THIS POINT". Hmph.
