Thats shitty, kinda bad when you hit a parked car though don't care how bad of a driver you are if you can't drive don't fuckin' bother racing.

i agree, and definitely dont' race around cars, when we go race we find the most secluded road, no cars and have people waiting at both ends watching ...(for cops) and waiting to see how everything turns out

There are, unfortunately, many more ofhtese stories here:

if you can't drive don't fuckin' bother racing.
Do you have any idea of hard it is to regain control of a car at 40 mph?
.... more importantly, do you realize how easy it is to lose control at 40 mhp even for an expereinced driver?

J&H, i understand your cause, and maybe it comes with maturity, but for most of us there isnt a track near by that we can hit up on the weekends. I would have to travel up to Wisconson (from chicago area) to hit up a track. As for now, ill just stay smart when driving.

HighRev87, please do not misread me ... I am not "spreading any gospel" or trying to change anyone's ways. I've been there and done it ... I am as guilty as the next guy (probably more guilty than any of you might imagine)

My post above was inspired by the idea that this "kid couldn't drive" which is just stupid.
Professional race car drivers crash at the limits all the time ... does that mean they can't drive??

NO.

It means they were looking for the edge and went a bit too far over it.
This happens in a lot of street races OR the unexpected (kid, dog, car, cop or kite flies out in front of you).

I just get frustrated with the pansies that think because someone wrecked a car it means they can't drive. PLEASE ... if you have never wrecked, you have never been to limits and back.
Show me ONE professional race driver that has never wrecked.

That being said, the only thing the kid did that was "stupid" was racing on the street ... but we all know that :)

J&H, i understand your cause, and maybe it comes with maturity
... or maybe it comes from close calls. Close calls that are just too f'n close.

Well I can understand...Once I get the stang, hopefully ill look into the closest track. I was also just assuming that it was a major error on his part, I shouldnt have judged so fast.

BTW, im a big fan of your site :) Keep up the good work.

Thanks man :)

... the thing is, we'll never have the real story on that accident.

I saw a guy at an autocross have a rear brake-caliper bracket brake and the cliper got jammed between the rim and the rotor - imemdiately holting that one wheel ... the car went into an immediate uncontrollable spin. It had nothing to do with his driving ability.

You never know what can happen (even at the track).

Do you have any idea of hard it is to regain control of a car at 40 mph?

Yes, especially in a big ol' Camry on a pock-marked road. I blew out a tire from hitting the curb, and it was all I could do to keep the car from doing a 180.

BS, there are plenty of tracks around you that you can go to. Even on the Indiana border near you. A one hour drive to Indiana wouldn't kill you either. Joliet has days where you can race on the strip to.

As for the original post; You have to expect bad things to happen when you do stupid shit, and doing it in a residential area??

#1 I'm sorry this kid died anytime some one dies it's needless and sad.

#2 I honestly feel it is bullshit if the guy he was racing gets charged with manslaughter if all he was doing was racing. I mean if he cut him off or something stupid ok maybe. Do I think this guy should get into some legal trouble yes but I feel that manslaughter is just ridiculious. I'm def not a supporter of street racing but I still feel that the punishment does not fit the crime here.

#3 Like Hyde said it has nothing to do with driving skill, cause even if you have the to skill regaining control of a car at 40+mph it is dam near impossible once you've lost it.
I was driving my car 55mph on the highway in a 55mph zone. Hit some sand leftover from the winter and I felt my rear start to slide immediately. But at that point it was already to late for me to do shit I had no control and just had to ride it out. A fraction of a second was all it was between being fine and having no control so don't kid yourselves.

#4 Road with parked cars, curbs, tress, buidlings does it really matter when you car is outta control at speed, your car will usually find something to stop it.

Michael Schumaker wrecked a F1 car on a caution lap, does that mean he can't drive? My friend just nailed a curb in his sable doing 40 while racing and broke his control arms, destroyed his tires, and a lot more damage to the front suspension.

if you're refering to this past race in Monaco, he wrecked because JPM ran into him, putting him in the marbles at the exit of the tunnle, then into the wall...

but yeah, the situation of a car can never fully be controled, mechanical failure can happen anywhere to anyone. it's the situation that you're in that can be controlled. keep it on a track.

If you don't like it, why bother reading let alone posting in this forum? Go back to playing in the dirt.

The last to posts have completely lost me.

Although a sad story, a good slap of reality is always a good for those of us that are fortunate to be able to learn from a mistake with out any harm being done.
