Good Deal Or Ripoff??

Was this a ripoff or did I pass up a good deal?? 6th Ave. Electronics had a labor day sale on a Kenwood MP3 receiver for $100 with free installation. I have a 96 GS that I just started driving a few months ago and it still has the factory radio that doesn't take cassette or cd's. So i go to check it out and they tell me that the 96 eclipse comes with an amplifier from the factory and to bypass it i was gonna have to pay them an extra $80 to install the radio. It sounded like b.s. to me so I told them that i would buy the radio and install it myself. Then the guy in charge of the car audio dept. comes and tells me that they would wave the amp bypass fee but that i was gonna have to pay $45 in supplies needed to install the radio. I ended up just paying the $100 and taking the radio home with me. But now I am wondering if I passed up a good deal. $145 does not sound too bad for a radio installed. I am pretty good at wiring. I've done my own strobe lights and neons before so i'm hoping i'll be able to install this radio myself. But I was wondering if this amplifier bypass thing is real or were they just trying to rip me off? Also I was wondering if anyone could post a link showing how to install a radio in a 2g eclipse.

some of the eclipses did come with amplifiers and i don't know if it's hard to bypass it or not but it's also a little more difficult to wire up because all the wiring colors are foreign so unless you get an adaptor...the wiring takes awhile

I'm gonna check out some sites and see if I can find some info on bypassing the amplifier. I know that the salesperson at 6th Ave. told me that the amp is behind the passenger side dash somewhere.

Dankid its very easy. You can do it yourself in a very short period of time. My Spyder came with the factory Amp it was located under the seat. I dont know if you have the same setup. But bypassing my amp was cake. The wiring wasnt any different I just had to disconnect 2 a cable when I took the old head unit out and I didnt plug it into anything when I Put the new head unit in. I dont know if all eclipses are like that becuase its the only radio install I have done on an Eclipse. But you will be fine. Just got get yourself a wiring harness and follow the colors on the package. Make sure you get the right one though.

But I would never pay 80.00 to have someone install a radio in an eclipse. Thats CRAZY. You can use the factory bracets and everything so you dont need an install kit. Do it yourself.

Cool. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to buy the wiring harness and try to install it myself this weekend.
