Hey everybody, just introducing myself to this forum, i'll be spending most of my free time here ;). I drive a 5 spd 2004 black Echo Hatchback with Borla exhaust, Eibach lowering springs, AEM CAI, along with JBL 300w 6x9s on the rear deck and JBL 270w 6.5" in the doors all powered by a 360.4 JBL amp. Planning on purchasing 15" Konig Holes pretty soon and tinting the windows. When money permits and a decent supercharger comes out for my car, i'll buy it. Anyways, i'll be back soon.

so where is the first race story ......

04BlackVitz

well the only people i've raced are my friends.. and they have been pretty uneventful. I've beaten all of them, which include a 5 spd 94 Jetta GL with some mods, a 5 spd 03 Neon R/T, a 5 spd Isuzu Impulse, a 5 spd 88 Fiero Formula and plenty of cavaliers. Although, one kinda race was real fun. It was with a 2000ish BMW Z3. He was following me through a series of hard turns, I actually had pulled away from him by the time we exited the curves. I know he would probably beat me in a straight drag, but I was impressed by the outcome of that little run. Although I guess I was at an advantage because i've been through those turns more than 500 times..Anyways, thanks for all the welcomes.

P.S. Echos have a hatchback model which was introduced to Canada in 2004. It is identical to Europe's Yaris and Japan's Vitz.

whats the specs on that little thing

04BlackVitz

The numbers are not very impressive.. but it feels much faster.

1.5 litre DOHC inline 4 with 16 valves and VVT-i. It makes 108 hp and 105 torque. The VVT-i makes for a nice torque curve. The only thing that makes this car quick is the curb weight of 2050-2100 pounds. I chirp going into second everytime I race. 0 - 60 mph with a manual comes in 8.5 seconds. Nothing spectacular, but not too shabby ;). The car handles very well with just lowering springs, although the stock tires are awful. I've met some guys in Vancouver/Richmond area who have upgraded their rims/tires and they say its like driving a completely different car. Anyways, i'll stop rambling.. I always seem to do that.

Yeah... those Vitz/Echo's can be little pocket rockets! Ever watch BMI? On their Touge Showdown segment they had a Vitz with a supercharger and it kicked ass! It was rumored to be a SILVIA killer....

Damn, i've never seen that, I would love to though ;). There is someone with a turbocharged vitz in my city, I have yet to run into them though.

echo?...echo...echo...echo

that is fairly impressive for such a small car!!

I'll probably post some pics in the echo section when I get my windows tinted if anybody is interested. All of my friends made fun of me when they heard I bought an echo, but all of their opinions changed when they saw it and heard it ;).

Yuh... in the BMI video it was silver... but it's now pink! Built by Yashio Factory (all their cars are pink!). Apparently the Vitz/Echo has the same platform as the Scion xA and xB... I don't see why you cannot use the BLITZ supercharger for the Scion on your Echo. I'm pretty sure this is the same supercharger that is in the Yashio factory Vitz... if not I'm sure a supercharger from Japan can be sourced for a price!

I've read about the Blitz Supercharger at www.scionlife.com. One guy installed it and was very disappointed with the power gains. There is a TTE supercharger available I believe, but that is not sold in North America yet. TTE is the European version of TRD btw.

I guess you can't really expect much out of that engine... Supercharged or not. But I bet it's fun to drive! What kinda mods you got right now?

04BlackVitz
09-08-2004, 06:18 PM
All I have for performance mods are AEM CAI, Borla axle-back exhaust, and Eibach lowering springs. Upgrading rims/tires next, then some sort of forced induction in the future. I know i'm never going to have a very fast car out of this 1.5L engine, but it is a ton of fun to drive. A guy I heard about has a turbocharged echo coupe that runs low 14s so far.

WELCOME!

That car sounds like fun, honestly. Even the great Drift King Tsuchiya started racing little peppy cars like that around the track. Have fun, be careful, and no flaming!

I don't mean to be a jackass or anything, but are you SURE he was racing? Just sounds a bit far-fetched that you beat a z3 in the twisties. ALthough maybe if you know the course that well and the z3 driver was crappy or cautious or something.

Anyway, welcome to the forum.

Gezzzzzzzus! Hasn't watching Initial D taught you anything? BMI? :nono: Even the under-powered 'Hachi-Roku' can defeat an R34 on the twisties! It's all about skill and balance! :iceslolan

I'm pretty sure he was trying. He had been behind me for quite a while and had been tailing me. No offense taken though, I can see how it would be hard to believe that. Z3s are no slouches in the corners. I don't mean to brag, but I believe I am a fairly capable driver in twisties. 1viadrft is right, its all about balance and smooth movements.

Wait, how does it get more balanced than the z3's 50/50? Explain that to me, please.

04BlackVitz
09-10-2004, 12:57 PM
Actually I was refering to driving with balance, not the vehicle's weight distribution. Why do people argue so much about something that actually happened? There are a million different factors that play into it on the street, how is it so damn impossible? Maybe he felt he didn't know the road very well so he didn't give 100%. I guess we'll never know.

Am I going to be the only one to suggest a turbo over supercharger? More money and hasle intially, but a small 4 like that needs all the gain it can get among other things. Could be wrong though...

04BlackVitz
09-10-2004, 01:07 PM
Yea, I could get more power out of a turbo, but I love the way superchargers sound ;). Also, I could use more low end torque to get me into my powerband faster. Although turbos are nice too, sounds awesome on my dad's WRX.

Yes I am serious! I was trying to make a point! The cartoon creators (not the video game!) understood the whole concept of balance and applied some realism into their cartoon with this. Are you even aware what the 'toon is about? But I also mentioned BMI which is 'real-life', that has footage of an AE86 Corolla/Trueno beating the crap out of an R34 GTR twice! Wanna see it? Come over to my house and I'll make nachos...
