I really hope this metal chassis thing doesn't catch on. I move around a lot and the added weight could make it harder to safely transport the models. I usually attach them to their bases with wire or tape, extra weight will mean they are more likely to shift and break.

Hope that after-market factory can make better p.e. set for this 'Z'... and hope ST27 will release the G'Zox decal for this 'Z' too. :naughty:
Damn! the rims is wrong... Hope that is only a prototype not the real thing. (It should be using the 5 spoke that was included in R34 Xanavi. Not a TE37 that in most JGTC R34.)

While we're on the subject of new Tamiya releases, this has appeared in the future releases section on hlj: http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljpage.cgi?TAMX-01
Apparently its a 1/24 scale car, but the code suggests that its not in the 1/24 Car series. I don't know either if its a re-release of the A110 or a rally version.

As the stock version of the car depicts an Alpine A110 1600 S version,
the most sensible thing to expect from tamiya is this kit with an extra tree with some rims and a decal sheet of the Montecarlo rally.
Here's what I expect it to be...
the 1972 car that ended 1st, 2nd and 3rd http://www.mcel.clara.net/alpine/mc1971.gif
Also very good news for people who still have their old releases of alpines in boxes, that means they re prolly gonna bring out back their Alpine coloured spray!
I know I m gonna get one!

Yup, Alpine and Light Metallic Blue are the same.
Tamiya seem to have done quite well with the '04 Impreza. Still obviously based on the '01 kit but quite comprehensively updated. Can the Scoobiephiles see any significant errors or omissions?

Looks preaty accurate to me, some minor mistakes in interior and on the front bumper but all can be easily fixed. But then again I am not a real Scoobiephiles. Oh yes and rear wing has to be CF and it will be a nightmare to do.

OK, so I've looked through the instructions for the Scoobie '04 and I'm a little confused/concerned.
The instructions appear to have reference numbers to the p/e parts that are included in the seperate pack. However, there doesn't seem to be any clear indication in the instructions about removing, for example, the front radiator grille before attaching the p/e equivalent. Are we to assume that there are plastic/cloth mesh equivalents in the box, or is this a sneaky ploy by Tamiya to get us to shell out more money for the p/e set?
Check out http://www.1999.co.jp/asp/GoodsDetails_e.asp?Bno=&Typ1_c=102&Typ2_c=106&Typ3_c=438&SPage=1&SC=172&SN=Autos+1%2F24+%28Tamiya%29&It_c=10039895&andor=0&scope=0&scope2=0&thumb=1&sortID=1&urikire=1&sort_sort=0&ItKey=&app_url=shop_right_e.asp, page 8 of the assembly guide for an example.
Or should I just chill out and everything will be fine?

No really. TS-54 light metalic blue is for Tamiya CLK-DTM 'original Telie' not Alpine. Alpine color is much between TS-50 and TS-53. It's under special color 'TS Pearl blue'. I used that on my Redbull FD RX-7 that was on the Rotary meetup last year. :)

I would assume that the P/E grille stuff just glues over the existing plastic grille as per most Studio 27 sets..

I think the seatbelt material comes with the additional P/E set, although I can't find 100% confirmation on either HLJ or Hobbysearch. If it does then it'll definitely be worth getting, as the picture of the seat looks fantastic, even down to the stitching on the belt.
The hood pins look like a comparison between the kit plastic and the more complicated of the P/E ones.
There are two types available in the P/E set, basic (part 15 in the pic below) and 'expert' requiring some fiddly assembly (parts 9 and 10).

Quick question.
The Z Xanavi ask for Tamiya TS-76 color while the R34 Xanavi ask for TS-17.
Is it the same color ? does both color match de decals ? I plan to make both and since both car ask for 2 color, I could easiy do both kit with 1 can of paint each. They are supose to be the same color in real.. so Marketing trick ?
