I've been working on this off and on when I've had enough of the Enzo.

So far I've opened up all the vents on the rear engine cover. Which I removed to simplify the body work. Mesh will be added to those openingslater.

I've also puttied in the gaps on the side vents. And also filled in the window molding above the windows that doesn't exist on the 355.
Thanks Veyron and Zoom Zoom for the tips with those! :)

I tried a product new to me called Magic-Sculpt. It's a 2 part slow-set putty and was awesome to use.

This will be painted with Cobra Colors Verde Zeltweg Metallic, which is a deep metallic green.

I'm pretty sure the wheels will be these Materasse's with the centers painted body color with chrome lips.

Heres some pics..

The kit was recently re-released by Fujimi. It does not have an engine. I considered squeezing in the extra 288 GTO engine I have in the parts box, but the tranny is much too long, and I don't want to re-work all the turbo/intercooler tubing. So it will stay curbside.

The interior will most likely be some varying shades of tan/brown..

Man you got your kids working overtime!!!!!!!!!!! Slow down Matt, they did not stop making model car kits!! Did they?

My kids are the best detail painters on the planet. They make my cars come to life. :). I'm kidding! :)

There are so many cool kits coming out, I've gotta stay busy. The old lady won't yell at me if I finish them as fast as I buy them.. :)

I've got a F355 spider conversion in the pipeline. Alex from Italian Horses sculpted the rear butresses for me after I messed up. They look great. I just puttied the side vents, have a few more touch ups to do, and will be painting it Cobra Colors Azzurro Monaco (an out-of-production ferrari color).

I managed to get the paint sprayed tonight.
It's a little orange peely, but it still needs clearcoated.
I thinned the Cobra Colors with a little bit of Mr thinner, and it worked awesome for helping the laquer flow. Thanks Zoom-Zoom for recommending that stuff.

I had to brighten up this picture a little bit. The color is dark, and the metal flakes are awesome. The clear coat will bring out the paint I'm sure.

This kit was in stock at HLJ now. They must have received a new shipment in. Hurry up and get em while you can.

When I found them in-stock last evening after being discontinued the previous day, I ordered one, and was hoping nobody would announce them being in-stock! :evillol:

Of course I knew that would never happen... :uhoh:

Oh well, we shall see if HLJ really had any or not-my order still isn't on my account yet...and if anyone who read Matt's report and attempted to hoard F355's, it's time to fess up now! :iceslolan

I wasn't quite happy with the finish on this car.
The color wasn't what I expected and it was kinda rough.
I considered stripping it, but tonight I decided to wetsand it re-spray it.

I thinned the Cobra Colors paint in a 1:1 ratio with Mr. thinner, and it sprayed perfectly. I used a 2:1 ratio paint to thinner previously.

The color came out great this time, and the metallic looks golden and it really came to life, and best of all it's smooth. A nice clear coat will make it even better.

Hi Matt,

The finish is looking good! The metallics should blaze once they're under the clearcoat. Was the previously rough finish due to the primer, or was it because the paint was not thinned enough?

Thanks!

Hi Matt,

Thanks! :)

I'm fairly confident that it just wasn't thinned enough for my airbrush.

I wetsanded the primer before the first color coats, and it seemed level and smooth. So I think any effect from any rough primer was minimal.

I think now I have the Cobra Colors paints figured out for my airbrush/style. It just took some practice and testing.

I had a productive day with the airbrush, and have sprayed the chassis and interior.
I chose light tan for the interior as the exterior is very dark, and i'm hoping to brighten up the overall look of the car a bit.

Today I detail painted the interior (which isn't very detailed).

I also detailed the wheels. I was going to paint them the body color, but the body color is so dark, I'm going to leave them aluminum to help brighten up this sporty car.

The muffler was also covered with BMF, and the tailpipes were drilled out, to make them a bit more realistic.

Here's some pics. I'm off to clearcoat the body now.

Well gawdammnit!

I compared the pics of Matt's new F355 vs. the one I built from the original Fujimi F355 Berlinetta. My F355 has the 348 interior. Later F355 kits (the GTS and the Challenge car) had the correct dash and these horrible door panels. So it seems the latest Berlinetta has the correct dash but these plain door panels. Even though it's wrong, the 348 interior sure looks better. I'd be tempted to use some Maisto F355 door panels.

Fujimi. What more can I say? :banghead:

Oh, it also looks like this kit has the later-updated F355 chassis...my original F355 has the 348 chassis. So basically the new kit has a now-correct dash and chassis, but the horrendous door panels. Now I'm not quite as mad as I've got one on the way from HLJ... :evillol: :icon16:

Yep, glad that I was able to snag Maisto F355's for about $6 each, good for a few parts at least! When they're cheap, they're great to rip apart...seats, dashboards (cheap LHD dash for S2000 and WRX), wheels/tires...I have a couple boxes of diecast models that look like they've seen serious duty being stripped on the streets of New York! :evillol: I know Veryron used some Maisto parts on his F355 Spyder conversion, including the top boot.

Hey Zoom-Zoom, would you happen to have the engine top left over in one of those ripped up diecast 355's I have the slots in the engine cover opened up, and it'd look good if there was a faux engine in there.
I think that was the other feature in Veyrons spider conversion I really liked. :)

Mine are spoken for...but if it's any consolation, it's really hard to see anything down through those slots. If you use screen, nobody will notice any lack of engine.

Hey Matt, is it the wrong brake in the front wheel? :D

I could not find any good pics correctly identifying if the emergency brake calipers are actually on the front or not.

These were included in the kit, and are probably wrong, but I don't think the car will suffer any ill braking effects. Since it is plastic, and it doesn't move. :)

Thanks for the replys guys. I really like these wheels too. The VIP weels are fitting for this classy ride.

This car is in clearcoat now and the metallics are AWESOME!!
This car really sparkles now! A bit of polishing and adding the windows, and this baby will be done too.

wow, hey,

Looks like I missed a superbly sweet thread !

I love about everything you did to this car, the green looks superb, the rims look like it was born with them on... well done.
Oh and for the brake calipers, I m not 100 percent sure, but I think the double ones have to go on the back, just like the ones on the modena.

Lovely build, and it will be hard to do better.

Olivier
