New rims

If I were to get some 17" rims, and I have stock right now on a 2000 Cavalier 2.2, which have 14", I've heard I would have to get my speedometer redone or whatever bc of the size difference in wheel size. Is this true? Would I have to lower my car? Would it be better to?

Your speedometer will be off by probably aroun 5 mph with 17's. You can have it recalibrated, or just adjust. Ive got 16's and mine is off by about 3mph.
Also, your car will look like a whole new, insanely beautiful car if you lower it. It will also handle much better too.

That is not correct. If you go with 17's you have to buy a lower profile (thinner side wall) Tire. For 17's you want a 45 series tire. Something like 205/45/17 or 215/45/17.
J-body.org has a tire mesurement calcualtor and gives you the off set if any of the speedo.
I went from the same 14 inch rims to a 17 took it to get calibrated and the dealership said it was ok and on target.
EDIT here is the link. If there may be a offset its only .3 to .6 of 1 MPH off.

Its all a matter of preferance. the 225 rub on SOME cavy's inner wells sometimes thats why I went with the 215.
