Hey guys, n gals,
I've had some weird tranny problems, but it doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes after I put the car into drive, it will kind of move forward, very slowly, while revving up and eventually it kicks into gear and acts normal for the rest of the time!? Its kinda weird, but has anyone had they same problem? any input will help!!
Thanx!

I just had my car looked at for tranny problems and I was told that slipping from 1st to 2nd and from reverse to 1st are the first things to go when transmission is going bad. Also, I was told NOT to change the tranny fluid or filter because it, many times, makes it worse sooner!! This comes from 3 transmission mechanics. Lots of places will look at your fluid on the dipstick for color and smell (as well as it being at the right level...and they will drive it 2-5 miles to tell you what they think for free. My tranny shifts hard from 1st to 2nd and I was told even though it is a minor problem in my case - that it will cost the same because any good mechanic will go through the whole tranny to see what is wrong. I was told to drive mine until it was worse. He said save your money for now, but keep checking fluid levels to top it off and pay attn to how she drives.

yea, actually the guy that I bought it from had it checked out at the dealership before I got it. They said it was fine. They said it might just be from disconneting the battery--its like it is relearning your driving style or something. Its been perfect recently so i'm not too concerned!! Thanx though!!

P.S.- In the Alero's, there is no tranny fluid dipstick, you have to take it to the dealer and they check it. They put it up on the hoist and remove a screw. If the fluid drips out, it is full--its kind of a weird method!!
