Electrical Mystery

I have a 99 Jetta III Wolfsburg Edition with the following problems.

1. When I turn on the right turn signal it activates both left and right turn signals. The left turn signal works perfect.

2. The cruise control works sporadically. Some days it works great and other days it just wont set.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Gregg

The 4-way flasher relay (part of the 4-way switch assembly) also controls the turn signals. They are highly prone to failure. They're not too expansive & fairly easy to replace. Try pulling up on the brake (& clutch if applicable) pedal with your foot the next time it's not working, then try to re-engage the cruise. The vacuum part of the switches are prone to fail.

My turn signal problem went away on its own but I will replace the flasher relay if it happens again.

The cruise control is still intermittent.......I have tried pulling up on the brake and clutch with no success. Today its working great but tomorrow it probably wont work. Very difficult to diagnose.

Interesting...

My girlfriend's car just started exhibiting this same problem tonight. I'll check it out further tomorrow.

the turn signal concern is due to the flasher relay/hazard switch. the cruise control concern is very posibly due to the brake light switch. there is currenty a recall open on the jettas for brake light switch replacement.
