92 cutlass ciera AC compressor

i recently had my timing belt lock up a mechanic said it is my AC compressor and that it would be 450 to fix it in parts and labor does any one know if this is an easy job or hard one if i get the part, and if it is easy how is it done. thanks-dillon

This can be a costly repair if the AC compressor went bad. You would need to flush the entire system with solvent, evacuate it with a vacuum pump and then recharge the system. Since you have a 92 you will need to convert it to an R134a system that will require different oil and refrigerant. A good AC shop can do this for you. You can buy a used compressor from a wrecking yard with warranty. As far as the filter and other items you can get them from most autoparts shops. The labor is anyones guess, but if you can find someone to do the work for you I would think you can have this done for less that $450.
