Throttle stick in between shifts please help

I have a 92 camaro 3.1 v6 manual. In between my shifts, when i push the clutch in, the throttle likes to stick open at about 2000 rpm and will stay there for abou5 seconds until it eventually returns back to idle. I had an idle air sensor motor changed but that did not fix the problem. can someone help me?

When you say stick open, Do you mean that the pedal is sticking down? Or the pedal returns and the idle stays up??

the pedal returns but the idle stays up

alright.. sounds like a bad or misadjusted TPS (throttle position sensor)
Could also be a vacuum leak in your system somewhere.. WHen you rev up the engine, do you ever hear whistling noises??

Have someone rev it up a bit and listen through a length of pipe.. Try to pinpoint the whistling noise.. A bad vacumn leak will cause the high idle.. You could also try squirting soap and water on all the hoses and connections (EGR hoses, PCV hoses etc etc) Look for bubbles

ok. i actually just looked and there is a fairly large leak from my idle air hose, the hose coming from the beginning of intake into my valve cover
tacoma man.

if you do plan on changing the TPS, i have some advice. use the right size tool, cause the bolts will
strip out.
strip out.

it'l be on the throttlebody at the end of the throttle shaft.. Kind of a round lookin thing with two small torx screws holding it on and a three or four wire plug in it..

ok i removed the tps and there is a spring wrapped around a metal shaft is that supposed to move freely?
DaMoNe6969

yeah that should move freely (it should only be able to move in one direction, then return.. but there should be very little resistance..

wow. ok because that was half open and when i push it, it doesnt spring back and it also has quite a bit of resistance

well, when you pull it off, it might be half open.. It all depends on how much you have to turn it to set it correctly.. But as soon as you pull it off it should spring back.. and any time you push it, it should spring back.. If not, it probably needs to be replaced..
If it isnt closing properly, then itl hold your throttle open too

would you suggest greasing it and putting it back together and trying it again or just replacing it?

That isnt off of a camaro.. But the TPS on your car should be very similar

yea sry i got kicked off. i ermoved the black circular thing with spring loaded thing inside is that the iac?
tacoma man.
09-07-2004, 05:32 PM
its on the passengerside of your throttle body
DaMoNe6969
09-07-2004, 05:33 PM
Well the IAC and the TPS are both spring loaded..
The IAC shaft travels in and out, the TPS travels in a circular motion..

ok so i got the iac. i took it off, readjusted it, put it back on and tried to start my car and it wouldnt start so opened the spring a little more and my car started so im assuming this whole problem is caused by the iac that i just got replaced

Your ECM will open and close that as neccasary.. If you could move it in and out, it should be OK!
I still think its vacumn leak or bad TPS
