95 Geo Metro 4 cyl TBI trouble

has poping sound in tbi when idles. when idles check engine light comes on but when throttle up the light goes off. while driving can hear a poping noise and a slight jolt in the car. Have replaced the distributor cap and plugs. can not find the fuel filter where the book says it should be. any help would be appreciated.
