Nasty cold operation

First off let me say this is an outstanding site. To bad I didnt know about it before now, I found it using google.
Anyway, here is my problem.
1995 Blazer 4.3 auto.
Friday night it was running flawlessly as usual.
Saturday AM it would shut off immediately after starting. I had to constantly work the throttle to keep it going, and once it warmed up it was better but still rough and would stall when stopped at times.
Power and acceleration are fine once moving.
Service engine light is on.
I remember years ago when I was a mechanic at a GM dealer while going to college I would have aimed straight for the EGR to check for constant vacuum or to check if it was stuck open. But this now and I dont even know where it is.
Any suggestions folks?

Go Straight to Autozone and get the codes. It won't cost you a thing and it will take the guess work out.

Had the exact same thing happen on my 93. A piece of carbon had lodged itself in the EGR valve, causing it to stay open. Check the codes though, be a good place to start.

EGR Valve for sure.
Get a new EGR gasket for $2, remove the valve, remove the carbon chuck holding the pintle open and make sure the pintle is freely moving, spray inside of valve down with throttle body/carb cleaner, and reinstall with the new gasket.
Reset the computeer by pulling the negative battery cable for 10 minutes.
Start and the truck will run like new.
Get a new EGR gasket for $2, remove the valve, remove the carbon chuck holding the pintle open and make sure the pintle is freely moving, spray inside of valve down with throttle body/carb cleaner, and reinstall with the new gasket.
Reset the computeer by pulling the negative battery cable for 10 minutes.
Start and the truck will run like new.

thanks, yould like to see if it helps.
Also, spray a shitload of cleaner into the EGR ports on the engine and make sure nothing is blocking the passageways.
