Always, always, always challenge traffic citations!!!

About a month-and-a-half ago I was cited TWICE for one incident in NY.
I "apexed" a traffic circle right in front of a cop. DOH!
I Was in my little Chevy Sprint and the cops was not exactly pelased with me.
He gave me 2 citations:
"failure to yield" and "speed was not reasonable or prudent"

I pleaded NOT GUILTY and I checked the little box on the back of the ticket requesting a written deposition from the officer as to why I was cited (I checked it on BOTH tickets).

As per NY State law, the officer has 30 days to supply me with said depositions.
Today is day 35.

I just called the Justice Court to confirm and they said I am welcome to send a written request to have all charges dismissed.

It wasn't NYC actually ... it is in the Bear Mountain area of NY State.

Regardless, I am quite happy ;)

Good job!

I had a cop pull me over for not stopping at a stop sign, which i DID stop at. He gave me a ticket for that, and because my plates were 'expired'. There were nothing wrong with my plates, he was just being an asshole trying to meet his quota and thought he could pick on a young 'punk'.

So i went to the justice of the peace. The plates one was thrown out right there. Because of that, i recieved no points for the stop sign and only had to pay for 1/2 of that ticket (28 bucks) so justice prevailed.

I'm please to hear you're getting the better of a jerk-off cop aswell, congrats my friend!

I completely agree.

I had a similar incident, while I was driving my mom's Infiniti QX4 (which BTW is a lovely SUV) and heading home that night. I was speeding a lil bit, as I had to make my mom's curfew (I was 17 at the time). Well I sped thru a yellow light, and got pulled over and received a $501 ticket for 55 in a 35 and a redlight violation. Needless to say, I challenged it, went to court, and got off with a requisite $50 fine and a day of community service.

Well thats what I get for driving a nice car at night, while being black. And speeding.

I sent this letter out yesterday:

Justice Court,

I am writing to request that the charges against me be dismissed.
On the back of my traffic citations, I had requested in my “not guilty plea” that I wanted the deposition by the officer for the charges against me. It is my understanding that I was to receive those depositions within the allotted 30 days.

The plea date on my citation was August 4, 2004.
Today is September 8, 2004, 36 days later.
I have not received the depositions, so I am requesting that the charges me dismissed.

The numbers that appear on the traffic tickets are:
LS 488323 3
LS 488324 4

Thank you for your time,

ticket for 55 in a 3
Well anything past double the limit is a felony (at least by me) and you were at least 18 times the limit. Shame.

Gj man I didnt challange my ticket for making a illegal left hand turn that i didnt know it was, Yes there is a sign but never came from that way. I was picking up a friend from work, empty parking lot (its a muncipal pool) and being dumb i hit my brakes hard and it chrip a couple times. I didnt relize but the cop station is very close to the pool so i got back onto the road and two cops cars jump into traffic behind me cutting someone off and almost hitting the back of my car and follow me so close i cant see their headlights. This makes me very nervous and i was paying close attation to him and stop at the light. it turns green now i can turn left and go home to pick up the bowling ball bc we are going bowling which is 2 miles or the next street i can take is about 7 miles to my house, so i turn left the cop pulls me over and gives me a ticket for a illegal left hand turn and a warning for my tires. ? is brakeing hard and locking ur tires up or spining them illegal in a empty parking lot?

I can only speak for Pennsylvania ... the law here indicates that if your tires "make noise" you are considered not to be in control of your car and can be cited.

I heard that. I know I haven't been able to check the boards as often as i'd like to lately, and just didnt know if I had missed it.

I wished those people wouldn't have been standing there in that picture in my signature, lol, becuase if they wasn't htere, you could see the left front tire about 10 inches or so off the ground.
