what type of measurement tool do you use to check valve lift? Also hoe do you check the lift?

Dial Indicator

Use a dial indicator to check lift. Duration and lobe sep. are much different. I'm not sure how you would check them without some fancy tools.

you would need to use a dial indicator . zero the gauge on the butt of the cam lobe rotate engine until the dial indicator is on the highest part of the lobe that number is your cam lift . thats the short version but should be enough to go on . you can do it right at the rocker arm but just be sure you have the indicator set up so you will get an accurate measurement

can i get a dial indicator out of any hot rod magazine pretty much right?

sure summit , jegs , maybe even some local parts stores will have one . you can also get one with the mounting device and contact rods
