95 300zx question

Just bought a 95 300zx n/a ::yay:: but i have a question. I think i may have a bit of a problem with my clutch/tranny.
Car runs great, shifts smoothly, but in lower RPM sometimes i can hear a slight grinding sound, well....maybe not a grind, more of a rub, something like you get when your brake pads are goin metal-to-metal, its worrying me, wondering if im going to end up replacing them in the near future. hopefully you guys have some thoughts on the issue.

thanks.

im not too sure but maybe it is your brakes rubbing but you can only hear it at low RPMs. maybe the e-brake isnt adjusted correctly.

heh, i can only "hear" it at low rpm, may do it all the time, but i cant really tell due to the exhaust system on the car, i dont think its the e-brake, just doesnt feel that way, i could be wrong tho, any way i can check the e-brake?

if it's a rubbing/grinding, then it's most likely something to do with your breaks, my e-brake latch/spring mechanism thing was siezed up when i got the car on the rear left wheel, just gave it a good hose down with wd40 and a few solid raps with something heavy and metallic and it came right loose.... go for a drive, come back and stick your nose right up to the pads/rotors.. if you feel heat or smell a burning smell, then that's the wheel you'll want to look at... oh... make sure the car's stopped when sticking your nose anywhere tho

Maybe your rotors are warped?

If the rotors are warped, they will be pressing against the Calipers and make a rubbing noise.

Sound at all accurate?

good point, it may be rotors. im gonna have the car check out asap, as to check what all needs to be done to it, for the price i paid for it, i can afford to do a little work to get it tip-top.

another quick question, related to my clutch/tranny worries. i think im low on torque, my and my buddy were out last night, decided to see if we could bark the tires a bit, car took off damn quick, threw us back, but didnt even bark em'. we thought it may have been positrack keeping it from losing the traction, but i wasnt sure if the car was equipped with it or not (im not too familiar with z32's yet, been a z31 guy until recently :) ).

Did you drop the clutch? Or just do a regular initiation?

Hell, if I can smoke the tires on my '94 Trooper, you can deffinately 'bark' them on a '95 Zed.

oh, i dropped it alright, nearly smooth out the bottom of the car, lol, j/k.

but i did drop the clutch, and like i said, not much hesitation, if there was any, i cant remember, but it sucked me and my friend to seats like jet plane, yet, no roastin of the tires, which worries me.....also had a hint of clutch smell afterwards.

Well... I guess thats not a bad thing right?

Just makes the car faster.

That is very strange that you cant even burp the tires, esspecially on a Zed32.

yeah, thats what i figured, of course its a good thing, but, im not familiar with how hard it "should" have slammed me, but IMO, it should have roasted those tires, unless theres something im not familiar with keeping it from doing such.

my 85 N/A when it was at the top of its game, would roast the hell out of the tires and drop the back end when it took off, was great :D

well if those tires are really good they will keep such things as happening but i would imagine if u dropped it, it should have done something...when i HAD my nittos on my car i couldnt even break it loose around corners. they stuck like super glue.

tires are brand new, well, that eliminates most of my worries, one more question, anyone know of any good Service centers for a 300zx around the poteau, Oklahoma or Ft. Smith, Arkansas area? "other than dealerships, who want my left leg to look at my car"
