i'm like seriously thinking of getting a maro as a second car.
i wanna get something thats pretty easy to beef up thats pretty cheap.
i've been looking at the 74-78 years, i like they way they look.

i need a project, but not too hard of a project. kinda hoping to get a maro with a bad body but great engine. and just work on the thing and give it some more muscle.

i also thought about an iroc-z, but i really really like the 70's years even some 80's better.

so any suggestions, what i should look for? don't really wanna spend anymore than 4 grand

youngvr4
09-06-2004, 11:57 PM
what do 3rd gens look like? sorry not that familiar with the generations of maro's

and yeah diable that would be a very good project if only it was close enough, i'm in washington

whats a good engine to drop in like a 70's maro?
or how strong are they stock?

3rd gens are 82-92 camaros ridge runner has one 89 iroc has one and lots of people here had one, he same one in Nailz69's signature, the one he pretended to own, the mid 70's to 80's werent really all that strong, like low 200hp around cause of the oil crisis back then... maybe the 2nd gen(one you wanted) is a little better too get (IMO) but basically its up to looks that you like, they are both similar in performance...

mid seventies camaros are so easy to find cheap. they were probably the least popular because of the smog laws introduced in 74. i bet i could look on the internet right now and find a bunch of good fixer-uppers with decent bodies for less than 2k. also, about the engine... chevy small block 350. most popular engine in the world, easy to work on, and you can find parts anywhere.

youngvr4

can i get some nice hp out of them? like mid 300's atleast

lol... you can get as much HP out of it as you want

youngvr4

oh, sorry, i thought certain engine's could only hold so much hp.

so how much would a 350 small block run me?

that 69 looks way out of my price range

Chevyracincamaro
09-07-2004, 02:08 PM
you're not going to find a 69 that is very affordable, unless the thing is completely stripped. if you want more of a classic look that can make real good power, id go with a second gen and throw a crate motor into it. i love my car more than anyone should, but if i were buyin a camaro id find myself an 89 or 90 IROC and fix her up...

youngvr4
09-07-2004, 02:27 PM
so the one above is a 1st gen right? then the second gens are what i'm looking for.
and whats a crate motor?

ridge_runner
09-07-2004, 02:38 PM
korndogg says get a 68

Chevyracincamaro
09-07-2004, 04:48 PM
poor poor korndogg.

anywho, a crate motor is an engine that is fully assembled, and shipped to your location (in a crate- get it?) ready to be installed. you can get em from just about anywhere: summit, jegs, edelbrock, gm performance parts...

Dober89
09-07-2004, 05:44 PM
Have you looked at the early 70s models at all?? Some have the nice round corvette style tail lights.

You dont need to buy a crate motor to make it go fast. If the car has a 350 in it, theres a good chance it can be rebuilt and you can make good power out of it. It would have a carb though and to upgrade to fuel injection could get a little expensive.

If you were to go with an iroc you could get a later 80s with tuned port injection. I have one with about 165k miles and nothings been rebuilt and it still moves real well.

man i would honestly go with a mid 70's and put a 383 stroker in it, that is a 350 thats been bored over 30 and a hot crank, and ofcourse ur gonna want a cam, and bs, but if not that i would go with the iroc-z dam stout, specially when u get to modding them, i have a bud who has a iroc-z thats pulling about a mid 9 1/4 mile time, its bad as hell! thats my opinion!!!!

tacoma man.

if you want a really "easy" build, get a 2nd gen camaro ('70-'81) if it doesn't already have a v8 you can get a 350 off of ebay dirt cheap (it is the most widely used engine, and has the most aftermarket period). a 350 w/ a decent intake and some headers can run about 320 hp. my friend has a '67 chevelle that has a 350 w/ a performer rpm intake, flowtech headers, and an edelbrock 600cfm(i think) carb, he ran dead even w/ an '02 svt cobra and his car is a bucket of rust lol. you can do alot w/ third gen camaros ('82-'92, the kind i have) but u do have to worry about smog and computer crap. really easy build would be an early second gen camaro w/ a good small block chevy in it. and as they were saying before, they will make as much hp as you want :evillol:

oh btw, if and when you get that camaro, just come in here and we can all help you w/ the mods to make it faster :smokin:

its a 1980 turbo trans am, i have one but it needs restored. it has a 4.9 liter turbo charged v8 (301). i dont know how it runs cause it needs a new tranny, or just put a 350 turbo in there. i gave 1,000 for it. but one in good condition will run you 5-10,000 thats running , decent paint and interior. you can usually find one on ebay that is in bad condition for 1k
i found mine at an auction.

lol, (to vr4) i meant u need a good intake, headers and a good carb. if any of the carb stuff u get into is over ur head ask us old school guys. i have a fuel injection car right now but i help tune my buddies carbed 350 quite often

Well hell vr4. I have a '79 Camaro, needs work, but it's a 2nd generation, like you want. But, if your thinking about the 3rd generations as well, I know a few different people who are selling their 3rd gen's. One guy is selling his Camaro for around 2k. It has a primer paint job, needs to be painted, a 350, maybe bored 30 over, but I'm really not sure. The interior is decent, but you wanted a project car. If anyone is interested in an '86 or '87 s10, with a 383 stroker, with a few mods with only the best parts, the same guy is selling it for 2k as well. He is basically selling the engine out of the truck, but doesn't want the truck, so the truck itself is a piece, but I think the engine is worth it. Just holla atcha boy at [email protected]. I will write back asap, with more info on the vehicles, and engines. Peace out.
