Drivers window

I have a 98 Elantra wagon with manual windows. The problem is trying to roll up the drivers window. It just seems to tilt froward and bind when its about half way up. I took the door apart and lubed everything I could but it just doesn't help. Any help would be great.

I have had a window regulator bend before...this was expensive to fix. I would pull the door panel back off and watch to see what the regulator is doing while it is traveling up and down the track. Also check to see if it's jumping track or there's an obstruction or damage to track.

(BTW...if there is anyone reading this asking themselves what a window regulator is...it is the operating assembly that holds the bottom edge of the glass and rides up and down the track. There are moving parts and sometimes a cable or gear box attached to it.

I watched the regulator and everything looks cool but the glass wants to tip forward when you start winding the glass up. I just don't have any experience with that stuff. Thanks for the advice.

Very possible it has a slight bend in it. When you roll up the windows....Is the glass being forced to jump track? If the track isn't damaged then you could go back to the regulator and give it a slight tweak in the axis direction opposing the glass binding/track jump.

Of course you could always leave the door panel off...drive down to like Gerber or PPG and get one of their opinions. Last I heard Gerber and PPG glass shops still give free estimates...and if your door panel was already removed they may be able just to have a tech take a quick look to verify your hypothesis. Of course they would rather have you schedule an appointment.

Good luck,
Jason

The window doesn't seem to jump the track. It does come out of the track at the top rear just as it gets to the top. Again the glass is tilting forward, and kind of binding, making it hard to roll the glass up. I will have another look tomorrow, thanks for you interest. I will let you know what I find out.

Found out that the track by the mirror was rusted behind the rubber. This was swelling the rubber out and causing the glass to bind as it was rolled up. Dug out the loose rust and gave it a couple hits with the hammer and it seems to be 0k.
